New Senoia Raceway opens 2007 season with "Special Events Only"
Senoia, Georgia - New Senoia Raceway (formerly Senoia Raceway) in Senoia, Georgia returns to racing action for the 2007 season with a new name and an exciting racing schedule consisting only of special events. The track will host special events only on an approximately monthly basis featuring some of the most popular professional racing series available to short track-racing fans today.
Those series visiting the South Metro's only short track featuring full scale racing include; the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) Pro Late Models, the O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series winged outlaw sprint cars, the O'Reilly Super Truck Series (formerly the Southern All Star Pro Trucks), the ASA Late Model Series and the Pro Challenge Cars. Several other headliners maybe added to a schedule that already includes nine special events scheduled from April 28th through October 27th. In addition to these racing divisions each event includes stock car racing in the Iceman, Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions.The 2007 New Senoia Raceway season opener will be the 1st Annual "Senoia Spring 100" scheduled for Saturday, April 28th at the 3/8 mile paved oval. The event features a 100-Lap Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) Late Model main event as its headliner. In addition to the GAS Series Late Models on April 28th there will be a full program of stock car racing for the Iceman, Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions.
Additional special events include the ever-popular O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series (O'Reilly USCS) "Senoia Outlaw Shootout" on May 18th and 19th. In addition to the four divisions of stock cars scheduled to appear with the O'Reilly USCS, the Pro Challenge Cars are tentatively on the schedule as well. On June 22nd and 23rd the O'Reilly "Summer Speed Spectacular" double-header features the return of the O'Reilly USCS sprint cars for another 50-lap main event plus the O'Reilly Super Truck Series will race 100-Laps around the raceway in their main event plus stock car racing. At press time Saturday, July 14th is on the schedule with a special event to be announced in addition to the Mid-Season Championships for the Iceman, Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock classes.
The 1st Annual Senoia Raceway Racer's Reunion is scheduled for Saturday, August 4th. The event is being held to honor past racers from Senoia Raceway's history including those who raced during both the dirt and paved surface eras. In addition to the O'Reilly USCS sprint cars and racing in four stock car divisions, the August 4th event features a full program of racing for the National Vintage Racing Association www.nvraracing.org vintage racecars. Between thirty-five and forty cars from the 1929-1968 vintage circle track eras are expected for this event.
On Saturday, September 1st, the schedule features the Senoia "Labor Day Weekend Speed Spectacular" again featuring the O'Reilly Super Trucks in a 100-Lap contest plus stock car racing in four divisions. The ASA Late Models visit two weeks later on Saturday, September 15th with support classes. The "Georgia 200" featuring the final 2007 season points awarding event for the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) Late Models contesting a 100-Lap main event plus over 100 laps of features for the Iceman, Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions is scheduled for Saturday October 13th.
The season finale on October 26th and 27th headlined by the electrifying O'Reilly United Sprint Series winged outlaw sprint cars and stars contesting a double-feature in the O'Reilly USCS Asphalt Thunder Tour season finale. The sprint car portion of the event will include twin features with the first starting straight up after the qualifying rounds. The second feature is scheduled to start the winged warriors with a total inversion of field from feature number one. Over $10,000 will be up for grabs if one driver can sweep the event including winning the second feature race from the rear of the field. The season finale event will also include a full racing program for the Pro Challenge Cars and season Championships in the Iceman, Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions.
New Senoia speedway has on open practice scheduled for pre-season preparation on this coming Saturday, April 21st starting at 1:00 pm. The historic New Senoia Speedway 3/8 mile paved oval is located 4 miles West of Senoia, Georgia on State Highway 16. From Fayetteville, travel 11 miles South on Hwy. 85 to the Senoia Hwy. 16 intersection and then turn right on Hwy. 16 for four miles to the track. From Newnan and points South on I-85 you would exit at I-85 Exit # 41 then turn left on US 29 and go ½ mile and bear right onto GA Hwy 16 for 10 miles to the track. From Griffin take Newnan Rd. (GA Hwy 16) for approximately 20 miles to the track.
