Jarrett Jets to Las Cruces Victory
Streaker Racing was back on the road this weekend, making their first trip back to Southern New Mexico Speedway since Jarrett swept the two Micro nights of the Richard Griffin Classic back in November.
Jarrett would start on the outside pole for Heat 1 and would take the lead on the start. Jarrett would lead the first 5 laps of the Heat, before the 7K of Daniel DeWitt would close the gap on Jarrett coming out of turn 2 and make the pass to take over the lead coming out of turn 4. Jarrett would retake the lead as he dove to the bottom of turn 3 and would go on to lead the final 2 laps to pick up the Heat race win.
Jarrett would start on the pole for the 20 lap Main. He would get off to a great start and have a few car lengths on the field, but we’d only get two laps completed before the first yellow of the night for two cars slowed in turn 2. Jarrett would have a challenge on his hands on the restart, as he and the 1 car of Will Gonzalez raced down the front stretch into turn 1. Jarrett would put a little space between himself and Gonzalez coming out of turn 2 and pull away a little more out of turn 4. Gonzalez wasn’t going to go away easily though and would close the gap and get a good run on Jarrett as they caught the tail end of the field. Heading into turn 3 with 11 to go, Gonzalez had pulled up to Jarrett’s right rear and they tried to maneuver through slower cars, Jarrett would make contact with one of those cars sending him up the track and into Gonzalez who flipped into the turn 4 fence. Gonzalez was alright and able to get out of the car under his own power. Jarrett would get off to a huge lead on the restart with 11 to go and wouldn’t have any challenge from there. He would go on to lead the remaining laps to pick up his second win in a row and 5th win of 2016.
