Inside Line Promotions – LAS CRUCES, N.M. (June 13, 2017) – Joshua Shipley was very pleased with his team’s performance last Saturday at Southern New Mexico Speedway, where his team ran with the POWRi Lucas Oil 305 New Mexico Sprints.

“We got to the track and it seemed like they prepped it differently, but they hit the nail on the head because there was a high and low groove, which made for good racing,” Shipley said. “We started on the outside front row of the heat race and jumped to the lead, and we ended up winning.”

With the good start to his night Shipley was ranked in the top eight in passing points, advancing him into the dash. However, the inversion started him at the tail of the field.

“We kind of just used the dash as a test session for the feature,” he said. “We ended up finishing eighth, starting us in the outside line in the A Main.”

When the main event started, Shipley got stuck against the wall and couldn’t run the corner as needed. That cost him a couple of spots, but he was able to gain them back after finding his line on the track.

“On the first restart of the race, I got a good run off the corner and passed four cars in one lap,” he said. “We had another caution come out a couple of laps later and it was a good start, but an intense battle with Royal Jones cost me a position.”

Shipley was able to gain that position back right before the header bolts broke off on the right side header. That created an exhaust leak and the car wasn’t able to run at its full potential, forcing Shipley to move to the bottom where he salvaged a fourth-place finish.

“Even though we had another part failure, everything is getting better and we’re constantly making progress,” he said. “My crew chief, Alan Verville, has done his homework and made me feel extremely comfortable in the car.”

Shipley is scheduled to return to action on June 24 at Southern New Mexico Speedway with the POWRi Lucas Oil 305 New Mexico Sprints.
