John Trudell Wins Auto Lab Latemodel Sportsman $500 Bonus!
Here is the highlights from the Latemodel Sportsman Division on 5/20/2023.
Heat #1 lineup: Austin Jenks, Evan Jenks, Race Bible, and Oliver Fitzwater (Martin French DNS). The Jenks Brothers bring the field to the green flag to start heat 1. Austin Jenks goes to the early lead in 1. Evan Jenks not giving up though as he continues to run up high on Austin. Austin Jenks continues to show the way, but Evan is able to stay right there with Evan. Oliver Fitzwater puts his nose under Austin Jenks to make it a 3 WIDE battle down the backstretch into 3! Austin makes contact with brother Evan in 4 allowing Race Bible to get by. Bible moves up to 2nd in turn 2 over Austin Jenks. Oliver Fitzwater wins heat race #1! Race Bible comes home 2nd, Austin Jenks 3rd, and Evan Jenks 4th.
Heat #2 lineup: JD Hancock, Matt Stanton, John Trudell, and Jerry Pierman. All 4 racers still in formation on lap 1! JD Hancock officially takes the lead in turn 2! Matt Stanton leaves the door open down low for John Trudell to get by to move to 2nd! Trudell immediately moves up to challenge Hancock for the lead! Pierman gets by Stanton for 3rd. Hancock and Trudell battle side by side for the lead. Trudell is the new leader on the backstretch! John Trudell wins heat 2! JD Hancock took 2nd, Jerry Pierman 3rd, and Matt Stanton 4th.
Feature lineup: Race Bible, Oliver Fitzwater, JD Hancock, Matt Stanton, John Trudell, Jerry Pierman, Evan Jenks, Austin Jenks, Martin French (DNS). Race Bible and Oliver Fitzwater bring the field to the start. Race Bible out to the early lead while Stanton and Hancock battle for 3rd. Hancock wins the battle and Trudell gets by Stanton for 4th and Pierman gets by Stanton for 5th. Hancock and Trudell battle for 3rd. Trudell is now up to 3rd. Trudell pulls up along side Fitzwater for 2nd. After Trudell gets by Fitzwater, Fitzwater spins at the top of turn 1 bringing out our 1st caution of the race. Unfortunately, Oliver Fitzwater was unable to continue. On the restart, Bible and Trudell race hard for the lead down the backstretch. Trudell and Bible continue side by side until turn 4 where Trudell takes over the lead over Bible and Pierman follows Trudell through on the bottom. Pierman takes 2nd away from Bible. Trudell and Pierman have a race of their own as they pull away from Bible. Meanwhile, Bible has his hands full with Hancock pressuring him for 3rd. Off of turn 2 Hancock goes to the inside of Bible and can't make the pass until turn 3. Stanton goes around Bible for 4th. Pierman challenges for the lead, but Trudell slams the door in 2! Pierman and Trudell battle again in 3 Pierman able to get alongside of Trudell, but Trudell had the better run down low. Trudell takes the W! Jerry Pierman comes home 2nd, JD Hancock 3rd, Matt Stanton 4th, Race Bible 5th, and Austin Jenks 6th. (Evan Jenks and Oliver Fitzwater DNF).
