Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park very shortly will begin a loaded 2013 racing schedule that will span the months of April to October. Twenty-nine total race days have been put on the calendar which will guarantee heart stopping action on the ¼-mile dirt oval bullring week after week. In addition to regular classes in action there will be several special events as well as a five round three-hundred lap Iron Man Enduro Series.
“This season brings some change to it but I think they’re good changes,” commented Charles Weaver, longtime announcer at SSP, “I believe the Northwest Extreme Modified class will be a stepping stone for up and coming drivers. Fans got to be happy that there are lots of Modified and Late Model shows. And of course the Enduro Series is something to be looking forward to.”
Action will all begin on April 20th and some different in 2013 is that there will be two Fan Appreciation Nights. The first will be on May 25th which will be sponsored by Knecth’s Auto Parts while the second will be a couple of weeks later on June 15th. The month of June will be opened up on the 1st with the annual Rose Festival Dirt Cup and the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout will return on the 17th.
The popular Firecracker 100 will return on July 4th and will feature the famous fireworks display while on the 27th the Dancin Bare Topless 100 will be a big night for the IMCA Modifieds. The annual Doug Walters Classic will be back on August 3rd followed by the Jim’s Thriftway 100 the following week on the 10th which has become a crown jewel event for the Street Stocks. On the 16th the Super Late Model Summer Nationals Speedweek will take place for what will be billed as the T&G Thriller while the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region will make their one and only appearance on August 24th.
Like 2012 champions will be crowned over the course of two weekends. One half of SSP classes will end their campaigns on September 14th while other half will close the season up on the 21st. The Sunset Challenge Team Race will occur on September 28th and the final race of the season will be October 5th with the fifth and final round of the three-hundred lap Iron Man Enduro Series.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights.
