It would be another exciting night of racing for the Wild West Modified Shootout as race number five would be hosted at Sunset Speedway Park on Wednesday June 17th. There would be a fair share of cautions but still some great racing would take place at the “Banks Bullring”. Thirty-seven cars were on hand for the midweek program representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, and the Canadian province of British Columbia.
Redmond's B.J. Wild was the man to beat for much of the first half of the race. Wild, in his Trinity Bikes/Timbers Bar & Grill/ThreeSixNine Fab #12 Shaw, would be under constant pressure by Jesse Williamson, of Eugene, but each time it seemed he had the position secured the yellow would come out resulting in Wild retaining the lead.
On lap twenty-one Alex Stanford would negotiate his Stanford Chopping/Golden Memorial Insurance/Borba Ranch/Susan River Reality #98 PCD into the lead and seemed to take right off. On his way to his first win of the week Stanford was catching the lapped traffic when all of a sudden on lap thirty-seven he would get into the wall after contact was made with a lapped car.
The incident resulted in Stanford coming to a halt and having to be towed away which ended his night prematurely. It would give the lead to the driver that was in second, Jesse Williamson. With a few laps to go Williamson was able to keep his NexGen Race Cars/Furniture Options/Double R Powdercoating #W5 NexGen in the coveted position for the rest of the distance to win his third main event of the 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout. It would also mark his second career Shootout win at SSP.
B.J. Wild would end the evening second followed by the Payroll Specialties Inc./Hoppes Construction/Lucas Oil Products #F1 High Side by Kyle Strickler entry of Medford's Monte Bischoff. The balance of the top five included Jerry Schram, of Vancouver, Washington, in his Schram Brothers Excavating/Century III Stables/Bodies by Steve-O #16 Hughes in fourth and crossing the wire in the fifth spot would be Nick Trenchard, from Klamath Falls and in the Biehn Racing/Natures Images/JT Chassis/Klamath Falls Lithia Dodge-Chrysler #54N Shaw by JT, for his car owners Rich and Nicky Biehn. The Susan River Reality/Wizard Racing Engines/J-N-M Motorsports #37 LG2 of Great Falls, Montana's Joey Price was the Klecker Knives Hardcharger.
The Wild West Modified Shootout will take Thursday off before getting back to it at Willamette Speedway on Friday June 19th and Saturday the 20th. Friday and Saturday the Pit Gates will open at 1:00 PM, the Pit Meeting will take place at 2:30, Front Gates open at 3:30, and Racing starts at 6:00.
