Support classes to the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series on Independence Day, Saturday July 4th, were the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 4-Bees at Sunset Speedway Park. It would be a packed house at the “Banks Bullring” as folks would witness some great racing as well as a wonderful fireworks display.
The Budweiser IMCA Modified feature would be a good one. The Lovell Truck Sales/Lovell & Hall Real Estate #40 Shaw, driven by Jeff Lovell from Oregon City, would be very fast in the early goings. Eventually Redmond's Mark Carrell would seize the position. Carrell would remain in the desired top spot for the rest of the race despite a very fast Rob Ireland, from Banks and in his Ireland & Ireland PC/Privateer Racing/Applebee Aviation/Klecker Knives #8 Dirt Works by Hoffman. It would the third win of the season at SSP for the Mark's Autobody #27 GRT by Phillips team and the second night in a row as he won in Cottage Grove the previous night.
Earl Claypool of Hillsboro was dominant in the JNR Construction/RC's Collision Center #3 Camaro. Obtaining the lead eventually would be West Linn native Brian Roden. Roden would keep his JNR Construction/Molecular Motions #14 Camaro in front to win his fifth triumph of the year. Roden also shaved his head into a mohawk and accepted the Warrior Challenge by Klecker Knives and received a free Klecker KLAX in victory lane.
Hopping into his old 4-Bee Tavis Koch from Vancouver, Washington was tough to beat. Koch, in the TK's Auto Repair #21 Dodge Neon, took care of business and would win the 4-Bee main event. Koch also accepted the Warrior Challenge and received a Klecker KLAX in the winner's circle.
Sunset Speedway Park will be hosting the Jim's Thriftway Open Street Stock National 100 on Saturday July 11th. This race will feature a one-hundred lap Street Stock race and is $1,000.00 to win. Other classes on the card include the IMCA Sports Mods, the Northwest Dwarf Cars, and both classes of Micro Sprints.
