Spring Challenge Night 2 - What a Weekend of Excitement

Day number two of the” SPRING CHALLENGE WEEKEND” at Sunset Speedway had race fans pumped for what they had saw the night before. The stands had already started to fill up well before qualifying so to make sure they had a seat. If you were late on Saturday you for sure were going to stand on Sunday!
DAY #2 RECAP: May 29-2016
Micro Sprints would see again well over 50 cars make the trip to Sunset Speedway. 1200 “A” Main would see a green –white- checkered with Brock lemley Saturday night’s winner and Jared Gunderson. Gunderson would pull off the win by half a car at the line.

600 Res “A” main would see some crazy racing, With several Cautions coming out it gave Kaden Holms a work out on restarts, finally it came down to time restrictions and Kaden Holms would be declared the winner.

Bridgeport logistics Street Stocks “A” Main was definitely a Cinderella story for one driver. The “A” main started out with Travis Koch taken the lead on the opening green, but a hard charger of Brian Roden who started 8th would challenge Koch for the top spot with 5 laps to go. Larking on the rear bumper of Roden was Benny Sauter in 3rd. with 3 laps to go Roden would drive in a little hard into turn 1 and bump Koch spinning both of them out. With a green- white- checkered Sauter had the preferred line on the bottom next to Marty Holmason, when the race was over it was first time winner Benny Sauter to take home the check.

NW Extreme/Super LM “A” Main if Saturday night 35 lap main was anything to watch then the energy level was high when the Late Models came out on to the track. Jason Johnson would seem to be the strongest car to beat taken the lead on lap #1.The battle for second would be between Sonny Modaff and Collen Winebarger; it would take Winebarger “15” laps and the help of lap traffic to get around Modaff. With “13” laps to go Winebarger would catch Johnson but it too would come down to lap traffic for Winebarger to pass Johnson and take the $1,000 to win!

Budweiser IMCA Modifieds 16 cars would start the ‘A” main event for the $650 to win. “A” Main it would take 4 times to get the race underway but when id did it was all Kyle Yeack out front, leading it flag to flag by half a straight away over 2nd place Winebarger.

Sunset Speedway is excited for the upcoming weekend of June 4th. We will be featuring the “The Bud Light Iron Man 100” $300 to win in the Pure Stock class. Also back at it from last week will be the Budweiser IMCA Modified plus the IMCA Sport Mods & the Bridgeport logistics Street Stocks.
If you are looking for something to do this weekend with the family then Sunset Speedway the fastest ¼ bull ring, located In Banks OR should be on the top of your list. Just 21 miles west of down town Portland on Hwy 6 is the place to be. Racing action that is fun for the entire family!
