Ken Schrader To Visit Sunset Speedway Park For June 17th Wild West Modified Shootout Date
By Ben Deatherage
Banks, Oregon- Race fans looking forward to the 2016 Wild West Modified Shootout are sure to be even more excited when the tour visits Sunset Speedway Park on Friday June 17th. NASCAR veteran and dirt track extraordinaire Ken Schrader returns to the Banks, Oregon bullring for one night and one only. The last time he visited the ¼-mile clay oval, in 2012, he dominated the competition and will look to do the same in his Federated Auto Parts/Hunt Brothers Pizza #9 GRT. Be sure and stay tuned on Sunset Speedway Park’s website for time of the scheduled “Meet and Greet Autograph Session”.

“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” commented Schrader, “it’s been a couple of years since we have been out there.”

The Fenton, Missouri chauffeur has already competed in over thirty events, on both dirt and pavement, all across the United States. 1971 would see Ken win his first title of any kind after finishing the year as the top point earner at Lake Hill Speedway, in Valley Park, Missouri, in the Sportsman ranks. In 1982 he would win the United States Auto Club (USAC) Silver Crown championship and backed it up the following season by winning the USAC Sprint Car title. After several seasons in NASCAR's premier division, where he was the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year in 1985, he would collect a total of four career wins. From 1988-90 he would sit on the pole for the prestigious Daytona 500 for three straight years.

“The bad part is that we can only run just the one night due to sponsor commitments,” he continued, “this deal has grown into quite the tour and we would love to run more of them.”

In addition to Schrader’s win at SSP in 2012 he won the night before at Willamette Speedway to bring his total Wild West Modified Shootout victories to two. That ties him for fourth, with Travis Peery, on the all-time win list of the tour.

Tickets for the event are Adults $13.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children (5 and Under) FREE. A Family Pack (two Adults and up to four Youths) will be offered at $35.00 as will $25.00 Premium Seating. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing starts around 6:30.
