Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park would host the first of two nights of the 2017 Spring Challenge on Saturday, May 27th. An extremely full pit area produced an incredible car count with over one-hundred entries signing in. Six divisions would be on the card including the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks, Dwarf Cars, 600cc Open Micros, 600cc Restricted Micros, and 1200cc Micros.
Portland’s Aaron Elwess would park his mount in victory lane to become the third different winner in as many races in the Budweiser IMCA Modified division. The Bridgeport Logistic Street Stocks would finally get their first race of the season recorded and defending champion Arnie Case, of Vancouver, Washington, would get the job done. Portland ace Ryan Martinez made it two in a row in the Dwarfs as he is on quite the hot streak.
It would be a full on invasion of Micro Sprints as three classes were in attendance. McKenna, Washington’s Lane Taylor was triumphant in Micro Restricted feature while Marysville, Washington pilot Derek Torkelson bested the field in the Micro Opens. The 1200cc Micro division was in the house for the first time in 2017. Seth Hespe, of Snohomish, Washington, parked it in victory lane when the checkered flag dropped.
Pit Gates open at 1:00 PM, Front Gates 3:00, with Racing kicking off at 5:30. Tickets are $13.00 for Adults, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children (5 and Under) are FREE.
