Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park had their final point race of the 2019 campaign on Saturday, September 14th. The “Banks Bullring” had six divisions on the card to close out the point racing portion of the season. The IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, 4-Bees, and New Bees were all in action. The Big Sky Landscaping IMCA Stock Car Series was also on hand and is covered in a separate race report.

Greg Walters once more laid conquest against the IMCA Modified competition. The Banks native picked up his eighth feature event winner’s check on the season. Vancouver, Washington’s Jerry Schram was second while John Gaynor, of Portland, put in an excellent effort to get third. Aloha racer Doug Lockwood ended the night fourth while McMinnville’s Mike Sweerewas credited with fifth. Doug Lockwood topped the field in the points category to win the championship.

For the seventh time this year, Joey Tardio finished in first place in Street Stock main event action. The Forest Grove phenom claimed his seventh win in his last eight starts at SSP. Vancouver, Washington veterans Arnie Case and Craig Loomis were second and third, respectively. Woodland, Washington driver Chris West placed fourth over fifth finishing Austin Henderson, of Vancouver, Washington. Joey Tardio claimed the championship by just one single point over Craig Loomis.

Tanner Krohling scored his sixth win of 2019 in the IMCA Sport Mod ranks. The Vancouver, Washington racer managed to beat St. Helens veteran Don West. West completed the finishing order in second. Krohling may have won the majority of victories, but it would be West claiming the track title.

The Loose Cannon flotilla once more left port their Vancouver, Washington port and laid waste to the 4-Bee blockade. “Crimson” Cody Skies hoisted his colors upon the fair-weather sky and gave to no quarter to the competition to loot the track’s treasure chest for the sixth occasion. Cutlass Jones and the fearless Captain Turnabout managed to run the gauntlet to be scored in second and third. Forest Grove’s Rob Meek concluded the running order, in fourth. The town of Banks can sleep a little easier now that Skies will go back to where his vessel makes birth with the crown of the track championship to raid no more until next year.

Finally, Tori Chandler took care of business in the New Bee ranks. It was the Forest Grove youngster’s fourth triumph of the year. Fellow Forest Grove pilot Brayden Brookshire was second over third finishing Andie Keller, from Oregon City. Thunder Jones, helming his Vancouver, Washington vessel, was fourth with hometown racer Pyper Dersham, of Banks, getting fifth. Keller earned the most point on the year to win the championship.

Sunset Speedway Park next has in action a special event. Saturday, September 21st will have a Team Race, 4-Cylinder Frenzy, and Trash Cars. For more information, be sure and visit www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com or follow their Facebook page.
