Cassell Scores Huge Victory In Round Six Of The 2021 Wild West Modified Shootout; Sanders Earns First SSP Win
Banks, Oregon- After taking a night off, the Wild West Modified Shootout traveled to Sunset Speedway Park on Thursday, August 12th for round six of the series. They were greeted by sweltering temperatures neighboring in the 106 Fahrenheit area at the "Banks Bullring." Twenty IMCA Modifieds were on tap and ten Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods were in the pits.

When the initial green flag flew, Craig Cassell struck first as he was able to get to the point of the forty-lap IMCA Modified feature. A total of four yellow flags were to be had. During the green flag runs, Cassell had no issue with lapped traffic when he approached it.

Towards the end of the race, the Albany racer of Cassell began to feel pressure from behind. Corbett's Collen Winebarger would briefly challenge him, but Craig kept him in check. Winebarger threw a slider on Cassell with a few laps to go. However, Cassell masterfully countered it with a cross-over maneuver.

Craig Cassell was first to the line to earn his first career Wild West Modified Shootout victory. He now has five wins at Sunset Speedway Park in 2021 and a total of six triumphs in KMJ Performance Oregon State and Shaw Race Cars Western Region action. His last win was on July 17th at Sunset.

Jesse Williamson of Coburg wound up second, with third going to Collen Winebarger. Aaron Elwess, from Woodland, Washington, placed fourth, followed by Eston Whisler, from Otis, in fifth. Jesse Williamson was the Eagle Track Raceway of Republic, Washington Hard Charger Award recipient.

For the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods, the twenty-five-lap main event began with Chris Frisbie grabbing the point. The Ft. Huachuca, Arizona driver held on to the first-placed position until lap six.

Matt Sanders was the one to get around Frisbie and took off once in the lead. There were only two stoppages during the race, both of which were in the feature's second half.

Sanders did receive pressure late but kept his composure and beat out second place to the finish line by 0.138 seconds. It is the sixth win of the season for the Brookings racer but the first time at SSP. He now has two wins in KMJ Performance Oregon State action. His last victory was on July 17th at Siskiyou Golden Speedway in Yreka, California.

From Red Bluff, California, Keith Foux, and in the Sanders Racing entry, was a close second over third finishing Yreka, California teenager Ryan Peery. The rest of the top five consisted of Springfield's Dustin Comer, racing for car owner Art Hiatt, and Michael Melton, from Phoenix, Arizona, in fourth and fifth.

The Wild West Modified Shootout remains at Sunset Speedway Park on Friday, August 13th, for the sixth round of action. Again, both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods will be in the house.
