Super Sportsman Legend Larry Jackson to be Honored April 24 at BAPS

York Haven, Pa.: There is no denying Larry Jackson’s legendary status in the Super Sportsman division. His numbers through two decades stack up against the best in the sport.

Jackson polished off 56 wins at the now defunct Silver Springs Speedway, including four in the prestigious Sportsman 100. He also had three championships at the speedway and four more with the Super Sportsman Tour, a series that traveled to neighboring tracks around the central Pennsylvania region.

So, it only makes sense for BAPS Motor Speedway, the new home for the Super Sportsman class the last five seasons, to honor his accomplishments.

Speedway owner Scott Gobrecht and General Manager Kolten Gouse will hold the Larry Jackson Nationals to honor the Hall of Fame driver on Saturday, April 24. The event will also feature a full program with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car regulars and Extreme Stocks.

"We are excited to honor Larry Jackson,” Gouse said. “He was one of the toughest drivers in the division over the years, and his accomplishments in the Super Sportsman division are pretty impressive.

“The history of the Super Sportsman division is something we want to showcase to fans who have come over from Silver Springs Speedway, as well as new fans. You can’t do that without having Larry Jackson as a part of that, and this race is a good way to honor him.”

The Larry Jackson Nationals main event will be 30 laps and pay $2,569 to the winner. There will be 26 cars in the main event, which will pay $169 to start.

This triple-header will also be huge for Non-Wing fans in the area. The stars from USAC will be racing for a $6,000 first-place check around racy BAPS Motor Speedway.

“Growing up at Silver Springs Speedway and watching my Dad race was pretty awesome,” said Tony Jackson, son of Larry Jackson and Super Sportsman regular at BAPS Motor Speedway in 2021.

“To be able to compete in a race that is named after him is pretty special. We are running the same paint scheme and number my Dad drove at Silver Springs Speedway, and it would be pretty cool to put it in Victory Lane that night.”

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. for this event. The grandstands open at 4 p.m., with racing slated to begin at 6 p.m. Adult admission is $25. Seniors get in for $20, students are $10, and pit admission is $35.
