Lawrence Shines During Several Moments of Season-Opening Doubleheader

Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2018) – Zane Lawrence had some bright moments and hit some speed bumps last weekend during the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway.
“It’s definitely not the weekend we wanted to have,” he said. “We encountered some issues and didn’t have the best showing on Saturday, but we’re ready to get back in the swing of things and gear up for this weekend with the Sprint Car Bandits.”
Lawrence kicked off last weekend on Friday by winning a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com heat race from the pole position.
“We started off pretty good and ended up winning our heat race,” he said. “That gave us a decent starting position for the feature.”
Lawrence’s heat race win earned a spot in the feature redraw. He pulled the second-highest number – seven – to start the A Main on the inside of the fourth row.
“The track was really rough and heavy for the feature,” he said. “It was so rough, the cars just wanted to wheelie and we were racing against 40 mile per hour winds, too, so that wasn’t helping the handling of the cars at all. You’d drive it in beside somebody and just drift up the track. The winds were that tough.”
Lawrence made his way to fifth before a broken wing post caused his nose wing to drop and throw off the handling of the car.
“After the nose wing fell, the handling of the car was a handful in itself,” he said. “We didn’t want to risk anymore damage or tearing up a car early on in the season so I made the decision to park it.”
Lawrence ended the night with a DNF and he was credited with a 19th-place finish.
The event wrapped up on Saturday with Lawrence advancing from sixth to fifth place in a heat race, which relegated him to a B Main. He had a torrid battle for the third-and-final transfer position throughout the race before ending fourth, which missed a transfer position by only one spot.
Lawrence’s next race on the schedule is this Saturday at Texarkana 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark, with the Sprint Car Bandits series.
