Sunny skies and great weather were in the forecast for the Holiday weekend racing festivities at Thunderbird Raceway. We had a great field of drivers filling up the pits and another great crowd on hand to celebrate our nation's independence. We were all set up for fireworks on, and off, the racetrack.
The Soaring Eagle UMP Super Late Model Feature was a tale of two stories. The first half of the race was dominated by 15-year-old Justin White. The young man will find his way to victory lane soon. The 2nd half would see last week's first half Dominator, Andy Sprague, prove to be victorious. 1st-Andy Sprague 2nd-JR Hotovy 3rd-"Superman" Steve Fairbanks 4th-Rich Neiser 5th-Bill Bray. Heat winners were Chad White and Shawn Reed. Fast Qualifier was JR Hotovy with a 13.093.
Once again Thunderbird had a field of heavy hitters in our BMR Motorsports IMCA Modified Feature. They came to put on a show and did just that. It was common to see 3 wide racing through the field and, at times, 4 and 5 wide. Exciting Feature, to say the least. 1st- "Bad Boy" Mitchell Hunt 2nd-AJ Ward 3rd- Jacob Poel 4th- Justin Gilmore 5th- Jerry Hunt. Heats were won by Jerry Hunt, Ward, and Poel.
Each week the new division, the Auto Value Pro Late Models, continues to grow and has some of the best drivers trying to help grow the class. The glamour car winner proves this week that it isn't all looks by parking it in the Allstar Performance Victory Lane. 1st-Trevor Sloan 2nd-Jerid Bisson 3rd-"Scotty Too Hotty" Scott Wenell. Heats went to Sloan and Corey Ausra.
The Lakeshore Factory Stocks are always a fan favorite as you see hard racing all the way through the field in multiple lanes. This week, the early season class Dominator, Robbie Sternberg, picked back up where he started the season by winning in dominating style. 1st-"The Shark" Robbie Sternberg 2nd- Chad Weinrick 3rd- Travis Haynes 4th- Paul Namey 5th- Mike Wiseman. Heat Races were won by Namey, Sternberg, and Patrick Hite.
Big names in compact racing were on hand to battle it out in the House Of Hobbies Cyber Stock division. Nick Jenema would start out trying to protect the bottom groove but eventually gave way to Mike Currier, who seemed to have his setup figured out all night. 1st- Mike Currier 2nd- Nick Jenema 3rd- Ryan Hamm 4th-Estevan Martinez 5th- "AW" Anthony Wood. Picking up heat wins this week were Wood and Allen Hite.
Closing out the show was the Warrior division putting on a pre-fireworks show on the track with multiple lead changes. At times, 4 different drivers would get the top spot, but, once again, Mike Currier had the car set up for the track. 1st-Mike Currier 2nd-Chace Willard 3rd-Estevan Martinez 4th-Cam Hendrickson 5th-Heidi Barnhard. Heat race winners were Hendrickson, Currier, and Martinez.
The Awards Plus Unrestricted Mini Wedge feature would see a heavily contested battle for the lead, but, the winner holds on till the end for victory even with heavy pressure from 2nd and 3rd place. 1st-Karter Juusola 2nd- Dallyn Ellis 3rd- Ajay Davidson. Heats were won by Kolton Wellman and Audee Proctor.
One of the closest points battles, and best little racers, both battled out front in the Awards Plus Restricted Mini Wedge Feature, with the winner making a last lap pass in slower traffic to steal the win away. These kiddos always put on a great show and are so fun to watch. 1st-Elleighanya Sheren 2nd-Brayden Sloan 3rd-Joshua Stafford. Heats were won by Sheren and Caleb Jenema.
We always have a great crowd of fans and Thunderbird and closed out the night with an awesome Fireworks show. Join us next week for Midwest Compact Dirt Series and KIDS NIGHT!!!
