Tyler Carpenter Reigns Supreme at America's Baddest Bullring

The Tyler County Speedway shook off a wet May with a thrilling June program, attracting around 130 competitors to the ‘Bullring’. With a fantastic racing surface and an enthusiastic crowd, Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg continued his dominant streak by achieving a hat trick on Saturday night. Carpenter kicked off the evening by winning the fan-favorite ‘King of the Hill’ competition. In this event, the top eight qualifiers faced off in a 1v1 bracket-style format, culminating in Carpenter's victory over the eighth seed, Steve Weigle, earning him $1,000.

During intermission, a fun ‘Grocery Kart’ race took place, courtesy of the Middlebourne Galaxy Food Center. Four spirited teams competed, including racer Nick Gorby with crew chief Hannah Shreves, the Sister Act of Josalyn and Natalie Hibbard, the dynamic duo of Travis Brown and Kyle Thomas, and the experienced team of Ryan Payne and Tyler Carpenter. In what might have been the race of the year, the late model racer heavyweights saw Payne and Carpenter’s team narrowly defeat Brown and Thomas at the finish line by mere inches.

With Carpenter now sitting two for two on the evening, his encore performance would be his third trip to the EQT Victory Lane in the Stutler Motorsports Super Late Model division on the season. As the pilot of the familiar #28 Kryptonite machine would vault off the front row and go unchallenged to wrap up his huge night at the ‘Bullring’. A ferocious battle behind Carpenter for the races duration would see Travis Brown garner the runner-up position followed by a hard charging Mike Benedum, Cody Rogers and Brandon Weigle.

In the Jenkins Auto Parts UMP Modified feature event another stout field of 21 cars would take flagman Matt Amick’s green flag. Tyler Stutler aboard the Stutler Motorsports 14t machine would pick up his first ever modified main event in popular fashion as the Clarksburg, WV racer would best Cody Brightwell, Jesse Rupe, Tyler Evans and Chad Smith to earn the victory.

A $1,000 to win special was up next for the Ohio Valley SCDRA Series as the young series would kick off the 2024 season at the Tyler County Speedway. A stellar field of 4 cylinder racers would set their sites on the big payday for the grassroots division. A wild and wooly race would entertain fans as the twenty two car field would take the green flag, featuring racing all over the speedway and a lead pack you could throw a blanket over for the races early stages. Chris Wise aboard the 6pac would eventually wrestle the lead away from leader Brandon Gibson. Once out-front Wise appeared destined for victory until disaster would strike the leader as the stalking Gibson would launch a last lap slider. Contact was made between the two front runners and after the Chris Metz State Farm Insurance Caution Flag would see Wise leaving on the hook and Gibson going to the tail. This would now set up a one lap dash for the $1,000 with Randy Wise aboard the #126 grabbing the checkered flag over Dennis Adkins, Zack Kisner, Jacob Hughes and Mitch Eddy in a very entertaining 20 lap feature.

A slim field of J&R Excavating RUSH Late Models would square off with Elkins, WV racer Ryan Hare bagging his second straight A-Main. The former mini wedge track champion would rise to the challenge for the second week in a row and manage to hold off veteran Kyle Thomas to secure the win. Following Hare and Thomas to the pay window were Michael Moreland, Allen Clark and Blake Runyon.

Going four for four on the season and remaining undefeated was Marietta, Ohio’s TJ Arnold in the Middlebourne Galaxy Food Center Sportmod division. Wesley Reed would grab the hole shot at the drop of the green and set a torrid pace. Arnold would press Reed throughout and the lead duo would venture into heavy lap traffic and Arnold would see his chance and make a daring pass to secure the point. That is how they would finish as Arnold would manage to hold off Reed, Kendall Hodge, Ryan Yates and Tyler Spencer.

A field of sixteen Sigler Fabrication Hotmods would set out to sit in the EQT Victory Lane. Picking up the victory was defending track champion and New Martinsville, WV’s Brian Probst. Following Probst to the payout window was Tom Sigler, Eddie Probst, Santino Loretta and Steve Magyar.

Kicking off the program was the make-up senior mini wedge main from last week and grabbing the checkers was Erickson Smith over Bryson Roberts and Eli Smith. In the evening regular Pathway Real Estate Professional Junior Mini Wedge feature it was Coen Thomas remaining perfect on the season as the youngster is five for five on the season. Finishing behind Thomas was Aly Leek and Rowen Brightwell. In the Senior division it was Jacob Miller besting Eli Smith and Cruz Thomas. Thanks to the Hope Fellowship Church and Hare Racing for sponsoring the trophies.
