Blurton Earns Runner-Up Result with URSS at WaKeeney Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – WAKEENEY, Kan. (May 26, 2015) – Zach Blurton tied his season-best result with a runner-up finish last Sunday at WaKeeney Speedway with the United Rebel Sprint Series.

“It was nice to finally draw well for the heat race,” he said. “We’ve been fast all year, but we’ve drawn bad. On Sunday we drew the No. 19.”

That lined Blurton up on the outside of the front row of a heat race, which he won to advance into the feature redraw.

“I got the jump on the start of the heat and led all the laps,” he said. “I had a lot of tough cars in my heat race. That gave me a lot of confidence going into the A Main.”

A revenge-style redraw, where a driver draws a number and hands it to a competitor, ended with Blurton being given the No. 8 to start the main event from the eighth spot.

“I got up to fifth pretty quick and then worked my way up to third,” he said. “They had a restart with about seven laps to go and I got around another car to finish second. I didn’t have anything for the leader. We got close to him in traffic, but in open air we were a second-place car.”

Blurton’s second-place finish gives him a lot of momentum heading into an opportunity to drive a 360ci sprint car for the Ochs Brothers this Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., with the NCRA. It will be Blurton’s first 360ci winged sprint car start since June 28 of last year.

“We’ve been lucky enough to get two races at Dodge City with the 305 this year,” he said. “They’ve reshaped the track some so a lot of the guys in the 360s haven’t been there. I’m really excited to get back in a 360. It’s been a while, but it’s where I want to end up.”
