Price Captures Two Top-Five Finishes in Return to Pavement
Inside Line Promotions – VICTORIA, British Columbia, Canada (Aug. 22, 2019) – Robbie Price picked up two top-five finishes last weekend during his first pavement NSRA Winged Sprint Car starts of 2019.
Price piloted his father’s blue No. 21 to a fourth-place outing on Friday and a fifth-place run on Saturday at Western Speedway during the 58th annual P & R Truck Centre Daffodil Cup.
Price began Friday night by timing in seventh quickest out of 17 cars with a fastest lap of 13.970 seconds. He then finished where he started – third – in a heat race.
“We practiced Thursday night and the car kept feeling better and better as we went," he said. "I just kind of took it easy and got myself accommodated early in the night."
Price lined up 11th for the main event, but he fell to the rear on the opening circuit. However, as he got more comfortable Price worked himself into the top five before placing fourth at the completion of the 25-lap A-Main.
“The first three or four laps really killed us," he said. "But we gained a lot of good notes and set ourselves up for the second night."
Night 2 started with similar results as Price timed in eighth quickest among 16 cars with a fastest lap of 14.208 seconds. The lap placed Price in the third starting spot in his heat race and he passed one car to finish second.
Price lined up from the ninth starting position in the feature and quickly rocketed through the field to take the lead around the midpoint of the race. He led several laps before falling to the seventh position after contact on a late restart with 12 laps to go. After the shake-up Price rallied to finish fifth, which was his fifth top five of 2019.
“We were really, really good come feature-time,” he said. "We had a really good shot, but the tires got cold on the restart and we just couldn't get going. It was disappointing to let it slip away like that, but the car was definitely good enough to win."
Next up on the schedule for Price will be a return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.
Price enters the event in the eighth position in the series championship standings, only trailing the seventh spot by 38 points.
“We have been making strides here lately, but we hurt ourselves a bit out West,” he said. "But I think we are moving in a positive direction and I'm looking forward to getting back on dirt with some momentum."
