Dale McDowell wires Wythe Field for $10,000 Southern Nationals win
By Ben Shelton (Mooresburg, TN) -- Dale McDowell led all 53 laps on Saturday night to pick up the $10,000 victory at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Virginia) with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals.
The win was the sixth of 2018 for the driver of the Shane McDowell Racing #17m New Era Industrial/ Will Kinzer Foundation/ Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“I missed a little bit qualifying, but we were still pretty competitive right there,” McDowell said after the race. “In the heat race I was able to get the start. That’s what it’s about. The competition level is so close. You’ve got to capitalize on situations like that. This place is so fast. You make a little bitty mistake and it turns into something big. So just being careful through that. But it ended up with the good Lord shinning on us tonight. This was our night.”
On Saturday night Dale McDowell made the trip to Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Virginia) where the opening round of the 2018 edition of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series was being contested.
With 31 Super Late Models registered for action, Dale qualified third fastest in his group before charging to an 8-lap heat race victory.
Earning the pole position for the feature, McDowell led flag-to-flag, capturing his sixth win of the season and a $10,000 payday. Vic Hill, Eric Wells, Ross Bailes, and Casey Roberts completed the Top-5 finishers in the 53-lap affair.

Tonight the team will look to go back-to-back in Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series action with a $3,500-to-win event at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee).
