BUSY MONTH OF JULY AT PPMS CONTINUES WITH MODASAURES X
Imperial, PA (July 13, 2016) The busy month of racing at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will continue on Saturday, July 16 with the running of “Modasaures X.” The BRP Modified Tour will return for their first visit since 2012, featuring the Big Block Modifieds. Also on Saturday night’s card, the RUSH Modifieds will return for the second straight week, along with regular weekly point races for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models, Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman, Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stocks, and Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns.
On Saturday, July 23, the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models will return as the Alternative Power Sources LHSS Race Saver winged Sprints will make a special appearance. There will be a Summer Sizzler event for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models, as the Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman, Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stocks, and Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns will compete in weekly point racing. While the Young Gun class is an age limited division competing in Four Cylinder cars, this night will also see the addition of an open Four Cylinder division where competition will be open to all drivers.
The month will end with a bang on Saturday, July 30, as Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions winged 410 sprint cars will be on hand for the running of the Third Annual Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive “Sprint Monster.” This event will be a part of the I-79 Summer Shootout, sandwiched between an event at Eriez Speedway near Erie, PA on Friday night, and a Sunday event at Tri-City Raceway Park near Franklin, PA. A large field of competitors are expected as they will not only be battling for the winner’s share of $5,000 each night, but the weekend also has a $3,000 point fund sponsored by Classic Ink USA Screenprinting and Embroidery. The Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models will share the card on each night of the weekend. They will also have a point fund attached to their weekend, totaling $2,500, sponsored by Hovis Auto and Truck Supply.
This Saturday’s running of “Modasaures X” will feature the return of the Bicknell Racing Products Modified Tour for the first time since May 26, 2012, when New York driver Randy Chrysler was the winner. There have been eight Tour events at the track, as Kevin Bolland leads with two victories. Single winners for the Tour are Rex King, Sr., Del Rougeux, Jr., Jeremiah Shingledecker, Brian Swartzlander, Chad Brachmann, and Randy Chrysler. At PPMS, there have been 41 Modified races run at the track, the majority of them from 1987 through 1990 when the division was a part of the weekly program. Bob Wearing is the all time leading winner with 13 victories. Among active drivers that are regulars in the division, Dave Murdick is the leader with three feature wins. The Tour is busy this week after an event at Sharon Speedway last Saturday that was won by Jim Rasey, and a planned event Thursday as a part of the Trumbull County Fair in Cortland, OH.
Also on Saturday’s program will be a return of the RUSH Modifieds. Nick Ritchey made a late move to pass Brian Schaffer on his way to the feature win, topping a 17 car field. This will be the sixth visit by the RUSH Modifieds, as New York driver Greg Wilson has three victories, with Adam Hilton winning once.
While the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models will not be in action this week, their point chase is very close as Brandon Burgoon passed John Flinner for the lead and holds a narrow, two point edge in the standings. John Mollick was the winner in last Saturday night’s feature event over Burgoon.
In the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models, Daryl Charlier leads the standings, but his point lead is much more comfortable than the two point lead that Burgoon has. His lead is three points. But he has two drivers that are three points behind him. Recent point leader Ben Policz is one of the drivers that are tied for second place, as is Justin Lamb, who earned last Saturday’s feature win. Two time feature winner John Mollick is not far behind, just ten points out of the lead, as their point race should go down to the wire in September.
Dave McManus leads the point chase in the Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman class. His lead is 14 points over Nick Kocuba. Ricky Stigerwald is nine points behind Kocuba. Highlighting last Saturday’s program, Todd Weldon took the win in the Ed Laboon Memorial for the biggest victory of his career and he sits 48 points out of the point lead.
In the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stock division, Dale Tuche leads Casey Grumling by five points, as Dave Sheriff captured his second straight victory. Michael Jackson leads Ben Anton in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns by 11 markers, as they finished just like that during Saturday’s racing program. Jackson held off Anton by a car length for his third victory of the season.
For “Modasaures X” on Saturday night, the gates will open at 5:00, with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00. The track is located west of the city of Pittsburgh, just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes.
