norris wins the 31st annual jook george memorial at ppms

For immediate release

Imperial, PA

The 31st Annual Jook George Memorial Steel City Classic did not disappoint at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile on Saturday evening. PPMS would see qualifying, eleven heat races, a six-lap dash, two b-mains, and four a-main feature events. Michael Norris, from Sarver, would set the fast time for the 2020 Jook George Memorial, and he would go on to win the 50-lap marquee event as he drove Nico Dabecco’s RUSH Late Model. Ryan Frazee (11F), from Addison, would get the win in the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series Non-Qualifiers feature, while Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burrell, picked up the win in the PPMS Pro Stock division, and Noah Bubeck (2), from Washington, continued to dominate the Young Guns division, picking up another win.

46 cars would battle for 26 starting spots in the 50-lap 31st Annual Jook George Memorial and the rest of the field would go to the non-qualifiers feature. Qualifying had the stellar-field of cars broken into two groups with Policz (14B) setting the fast-time for group A with a time of 20.427. Norris (F1) would set the fast time for group B and the fastest time overall with a time of 20.272.

The field was then broken into six heat races with the winner from each heat going to the John Beatty Memorial six-lap dash. Policz (14B), Logan Zarin (1Z), from Moon Township, John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, Ohio, Norris (F1), Daryl Charlier (12), from Midway, and last year’s winner Kyle Lukon (184), from Burgettstown, were the heat race winners and would redraw for the dash. Policz (14B) would win the John Beatty Memorial Dash and would start on the pole for the 50-lap main event.

With Policz (14B) as the pole-sitter, Lukon (184) would start in second, Charlier (12) would start in third, Norris (F1) would start in fourth, Mollick (60M) would start in fifth, and Zarin (1Z) would complete the top three starting rows for the 50-lap main event. When the green flag dropped, Policz (14B) would keep the early lead but the pace would slow on lap two for the event’s first caution. Policz (14B) and Lukon (184) would lead the restart and Policz (14B) would keep the lead when the field returned to green-flag conditions. Policz (14B) would enter lapped-traffic on lap nine with Lukon (184) gaining ground on him. Policz (14B) would lead until lap 11 when Lukon (184) would make the pass for the lead. Last year’s winner, Lukon (184) would lead the next 13 laps until Policz (14B) reclaimed the lead on lap 24, and Norris (F1) would follow him into second place which forced Lukon (184) back to third. On the very next lap, Norris (F1) would steal the lead from Policz (14B) and would begin to expand his lead over the field. Norris (F1) was on a rail and had a huge lead over the field when the caution would come out on lap 39 for a car that had trouble in turn two. Norris (F1) would lead the restart with Lukon (184) in second, and Policz (14B) in third. When the green flag waved for the final time in the event, Norris (F1) would keep the lead and lead the remaining 11 laps in the 31st Annual Jook George Memorial Steel City Classic picking up the $7,010 paycheck. Following him to the line was Lukon (184) in second, Policz (14B) in third, Kyle Hardy (14C) in fourth, Michael Duritsky (90J) in fifth, Jeremy Wonderling (3J) in sixth, Joe Martin (10S) in seventh, Charlier (12) in eighth, Zarin (1Z) in ninth, and Levi Crowl (5C) would complete the top 10. Notables: Joe Martin (10S) would start 25th and would finish in 7th.

The RUSH Non-Qualifier 10-lap feature would have Ryan Frazee (11F) starting on the pole. Dave Gobel (20G), from Aliquippa, would start in second, while Colby Beighey (36B), from Taylor, Michigan, would start in third, and John Watson (14), from Conneaut, would complete the top two starting rows. When the green flag dropped, Frazee (11F) and Beighey (36B) would battle for the lead. Beighey (36B) would take the lead on lap two but it was short-lived, as Frazee (11F) would take over the lead on lap three. The event’s lone caution would come on lap seven slowing the pace. Frazee (11F) and Beighey (36B) would lead the field on the restart and Frazee (11F) would retain the lead. Frazee (11F) would lead the remaining laps in the event, picking up the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series Non-Qualifiers feature win. Following him to the line was Beighey (36B) in second, Zach Kane (10) in third, John Watson (14) in fourth, Dave Gobel (20G) in fifth, Tony White (27T) in sixth, Bob Schwartzmiller (28S) in seventh, John Boring (58B) in eighth, David Parker (2) in ninth, and Brandon Lott (47L) in tenth.

The PPMS Pro Stocks had their test and tune on Saturday night for next week’s Ed Laboon Memorial. In the 15-lap feature, Ryan Moyer (13X), from Portersville, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Cam Kraisinger (47). AJ Poljak (36) would start in third, and Nick Kocuba (10) would round out the top two starting rows. When the green flag waved, Kraisinger (47) would take the early lead but Moyer (13X) would steal the lead on lap two. Then on lap three, Kocuba (10) would steal the lead from Moyer (13X). Lap four had Kocuba (10) leading, Schneider (55) in second, and Moyer (13X) in third. A caution would come on lap eight for a car that spun in turn two. Kocuba (10) would lead the field on the restart with six laps to go. When the field returned to green-flag conditions, Schneider (55) would take the lead away from Kocuba (10) then another caution would slow the pace on lap nine. Schneider (55) would keep the lead on the restart and despite a few more cautions, Schneider (55) would lead the remaining laps of the event, picking up his first PPMS win of the season. Following him to the line was Noah Brunell (31) in second, Steve D’Apolito (84) in third, Kocuba (10) in fourth, Todd Weldon (45) in fifth, Daryl Charlier (114) in sixth, Moyer (13X) in seventh, Kraisinger (47) in eighth, AJ Poljak (36) in ninth, and Jason Black (5B) rounds out the top 10. The heat race winners were Brunell (31) and Charlier (114).

Noah Bubeck (2) has simply dominated the Young Guns division at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile and his winning streak goes back to the Pittsburgher 100 weekend of 2019. In the Young Guns six-lap feature on Saturday night, Wyatt Mock (88M) would start on the pole. Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, would start in second, Cameron Lambert (223), from Plum, would start in third, Dylan Clipp (69) would start in fourth, and Bubeck (2) would complete the five-car field. When the green flag dropped, Clipp (69) was sent to the pits for making contact with another car on lap one, as the Young Guns are a no-contact division. Mock (88M) and Bubeck (2) were battling for the lead on lap three, as Bubeck (2) would steal the lead, and then Mock (88M) took it right back off him. Mock (88M) and Bubeck (2) would battle hard with Bubeck (2) taking the lead coming off of turn four on the last lap and keeping his winning streak alive. Following him to the line was Mock (88M) in second, Hollister (44) in third, Lambert (223) in fourth, and Clipp (69) in fifth. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.
