frank magill wins race 3 in the cheplic pack hobby stock series and 3 more first-time winners

Imperial, PA

So far during the 2022 season at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile, it has been a story of first-time winners and Saturday night would follow suit. The smell of one-dollar hotdogs and summertime humidity filled the air as drivers would battle it out for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Series’s third race of the season. Plus, four other divisions of racing and family entertainment were on the card for Saturday night. PPMS would see seven heat races and five feature events. Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, would win the third race of the season for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Series taking $500 to the bank. Tim Shaffer (45), from Aliquippa, would pick up his first career win for the Rohrich RUSH Dirt Late Models, while AJ Poljak (36), from Baldwin, would bring home another win for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks. Travis Corbin (2R), from Colliers, West Virginia, would get his first career win for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and 13-year-old, Zoey Knight (78Z), from Plum, also picked up her first career win for the All Ways Safe Young Guns.

Cody Koteles (1K), from Stockdale, won the first two races in the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Series, and he would start on the pole for tonight’s 20-lap feature event. Danny Rich (221K), from Imperial, would start to his outside in second place, while Matt Benard (15), from Oakdale, started third, Tyler Fox (39F), from Pittsburgh, started fourth, F. Magill (05), started fifth, and Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, completed the top three starting rows. At the start of the event, C. Koteles (1K) would come away with the early lead as the front of the pack exited turn two. However, a four-car crash between turns three and four would force a complete restart since a lap wasn’t completed. Involved in the crash were Benard (15), G. Koteles (65K), T. Magill (5), and Garrett O’Patchen (25). All of the drivers were okay and despite some car damage, they were all able to line up for the complete restart. When green replaced yellow, C. Koteles (1K) would again come away with the early lead. Lap three had C. Koteles (1K) leading the field with Rich (221K) in second, Fox (39F) in third, F. Magill (05) in fourth, and Logan Koteles (64K) in fifth. Another caution would come on lap four when Fox (39F) would spin out between turns one and two and Jonathan Koteles (2K) would hit the wall as he tried to avoid the spinning 39F. When the field returned to green flag conditions, C. Koteles (1K) was still holding onto the lead but he began to fall off of the pace soon after which allowed F. Magill (05) to take over the lead by the start of lap six. With F. Magill (05) now in the lead, Rich (221K) was behind him in second, L. Koteles (64K) was in third, T. Magill (5) was in fourth, and Fox (39F) was already back up to fifth place after having to tag the field when he spun out on lap four. Lap 11 brought another caution for the 64 of Tom Anton who spun out in turn two. F. Magill (05) would take the outside on the restart with Rich (221K) to his inside. When the green flag waved, F. Magill (05) would keep his lead as Rich (221K) stayed in second, and Fox (39F) was now running third. Fox (39F) would again bring out the caution on lap 14 when he spun out under the flag stand on the front stretch. F. Magill (05) would again choose the outside on the restart and despite another caution, he would lead the remaining laps of the event, en route to winning the third race of the season for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Series. He was followed by Rich (221K) in second, L. Koteles (64K) in third, Fox (39F) in fourth despite having to tag the field twice, and T. Magill (5) would round out the top five and also had to tag the field earlier in the race. The heat race winners were F. Magill (05) and Matt Benard (15).

In the Rohrich RUSH Late Model 20-lap feature, Ben Scott (80), from Delamar, Delaware, would start on the pole. Starting to the outside in second place was Dan Lepro (2L), from Midway, and it was Lepro’s (2L) first time back in his race car since week one when it was destroyed in an accident. Lepro (2L) was okay but his car wasn’t as lucky. Cole Petrelle (84), from Follansbee, West Virginia would line up in the third spot and Tim Shaffer (45) would complete the top two starting rows. When the green light turned on, the field would go thundering into turns one and two with the lead up for grabs. Lepro (2L) would come away with the early lead as the pack exited turn two. Lap three had Lepro (2L) still leading, Shaffer (45) now in second, and Mike Reft (9R) now in third. The front runners would enter lapped traffic on lap seven and the top three would remain the same at the halfway point. With Lepro (2L) still leading, lapped traffic would get in his way which forced him to check up and it allowed Shaffer (45) to shoot around both cars to take over the lead on lap 13. With Shaffer (45) now in the lead, Reft (9R) was able to move up to second on lap 16 which forced Lepro (2L) back to third. It didn’t matter though because Shaffer (45) was on a rail and led the remaining laps of the event which allowed him to pick up his first career PPMS RUSH Late Model win. He was followed by Reft (9R) in second, Lepro (2L) in third, Petrelle (84) in fourth, and Bubeck (4) completed the top five. The heat race winners were Lepro (2L) and Scott (80).

The Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap feature was up next and Brian Hucko (60H), from Coraopolis, would start on the pole. Jacob Billyk (4), from New Castle, would start in second while AJ Poljak (36) would start in third, and last week’s winner Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown, would complete the top two starting rows. Huchko (60H) would take off with the early lead at the start of the event after a side-by-side battle with Poljak (36). The event’s lone caution would come on lap five when Jacob Billyk (4) spun out in turn two. Huchko (60H) would choose the outside on the restart with Poljak (36) to his inside in second, Kocuba (10) in third, and Mike Harris (18) would hold down the fourth spot. When green replaced yellow, Huchko (60H) would keep his lead over the field. Huchko (60H) would continue to lead until lap nine when Poljak (36) was able to pass him as they were about to enter turn three. Poljak (36) would lead the remaining five laps of the event as he would pick up another PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock win. He was followed by Huchko (60H) in second, Kocuba (10) in third, Harris (18) in fourth, and Jackson Billyk (5) would complete the top five. The heat race winner was Huchko (60H).

The Crawford Auto Repair Four-Cylinder six-lap feature would have Travis Corbin (2R) starting on the pole. To his outside starting in second was Derek Quigley (65Q), from Roscoe. Craig Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio, would start in third, and Andy Garlinger (55), from Hopedale, Ohio, would complete the four-car field as he was driving for Susie Rudolph. When the green flag waved, Corbin (2R) would pull away from the field with the lead. The event’s only caution would come on lap one when Garlinger (55) had car trouble and was stopped on the backstretch. He was able to get the car moving again and tag the field for the restart. When green replaced yellow, Corbin (2R) would again keep his lead. Corbin (2R) would lead all laps of the event, en route to picking up his first career Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder win at PPMS. He was followed by Quigley (65Q) in second, Garlinger (55) in third, and C. Rudolph (5R) in fourth. The heat race winner was Corbin (2R).

Last but not least was the All Ways Safe Young Guns six-lap feature and Abby Gindlesperger (05), from Jefferson Hills, would start on the pole. Starting to the outside in second was Zoey Knight (78Z). The second row consisted of Emmerson Laboon (114) starting third, and Sumara Weaver (112W), from Daisytown, starting fourth, while Tyler Hollister (44T), from McDonald, would start last and complete the five-car field. When the green light turned on, Laboon (114) would come away with the lead on lap one. However, Knight (78Z) would take over the lead on lap two and Laboon (114) would fall to second. Despite a great effort by Laboon (114), Knight (78Z) was able to hold her off and lead the remaining laps of the event en route to her first career Young Guns win. She was followed by Laboon (114) in second, Hollister (44T) in third, Weaver (112W) in fourth, and Gindlesperger (05) in fifth. The heat race winner was Hollister (44T).
