jonathan koteles gets first career win at ppms

Imperial, PA

Every week this season, there has been at least one first-time winner at PPMS. The same can be said for Saturday night as we closed out the month of July at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile with Driver Autograph Night and Scout Night. Fans got to meet their favorite driver on the front stretch and the area’s Scouts would be honored during opening ceremonies. After the opening ceremonies, PPMS would see eight heat races and five feature events. Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, would pick up another win in the Rohrich RUSH Dirt Late Model feature while Jonathan Koteles (2K), from Stockdale, would get his first career win for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stocks. Cody Koteles (1K), from Stockdale, would pick up his second career win in the Penn Ohio Pro Stock feature while Susie Rudolph (55), from Steubenville, Ohio, brought home another win for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and Emmerson Laboon (114) made her way back to victory lane for the All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns.

20-laps would be the distance in the Rohrich RUSH Late Model feature with Cole Petrelle (84P), from Follansbee, West Virginia, and Dan Lepro (2L), from Midway, bringing the field to the green flag. Petrelle (84P) jumped out to an early lead and by lap three, Policz (14B) and Daryl Charlier (3RK) were behind him in second and third respectively. Petrelle (84P) would enter lapped traffic on lap seven with Policz (14B) and Charlier (3RK) joining him on the same lap. The top three remained the same on lap eight with Lepro (2L) in fourth, and Mike Reft (9R) holding down the top five. The top five would stay the same for the next six laps, but on lap 15, Policz (14) would take the lead away from Petrelle (84P) as they headed into turn three. They split a lapped car with Policz (14B) on the high side and Petrelle (84P) down low. The event’s lone caution would come on lap 19 when a car spun out between turns three and four before Policz (14B) was able to take the checkered flag. A two-lap shootout would ensue with Policz (14B) wanting the inside lane which put Petrelle (84P) on his outside. When green replaced yellow, Policz (14B) would lead the remaining two laps and pick up another PPMS Rohrich RUSH Late Model win. He was followed by Petrelle (84P) in second, Charlier (3RK) in third, Reft (9R) in fourth, and Lepro (2L) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were Petrelle (84P) and Charlier (3RK).

In the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock 15-lap feature, Ben Anton (13), from Jefferson Hills, would start on the pole. Matt Benard (15), from Oakdale, would start in second while Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, would start in third, and Robert Betz (22), from South Heights, would complete the top two starting rows. When the green flag dropped, Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, would come from his fifth place starting spot to snag the early lead as he exited turn two. With G. Koteles (65K) leading the field, the second spot was up for grabs for the first few laps as Tony Magill (5), Jonathan Koteles (2K), and Benard (15) were in a 3-wide battle for that second spot. J. Koteles (2K) would eventually gain full control of the second spot with Benard (15) in third, and T. Magill (5) in fourth. At the halfway point of the event, G. Koteles (65K) continued to lead the field while J. Koteles (2K) was still holding down the second spot, Benard (15) was still in third, Cody Koteles (64K) was now in the fourth spot, and Frank Magill (05) was now in fifth. The top five would stay the same on laps nine through eleven, and on lap 12, J. Koteles (2K) would take over the lead. He would lead the final three laps of the race and go on to pick up his first career Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock win. He was followed by G. Koteles (65K) in second, Benard (15) in third, C. Koteles (64K) in fourth, and F. Magill (05) completing the top five. The heat race winners were F. Magill (05) and G. Koteles (65K).

The Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap feature had Cody Koteles (1K) starting on the pole with Jackson Billyk (5) to his outside in second. Frank Magill (05) would start in third, Nick Kocuba (10) would start in fourth, and points leader AJ Poljak (36) would start in fifth. When the green flag waved, C. Koteles (1K) would take off with the early lead, and Poljak (36) would follow him into the second spot. The event’s first caution would come on lap five for the 4JR of Jake Billyk who spun out in turn two. C. Koteles (1K) and Poljak (36) would lead the restart and C. Koteles (1K) would retain his lead over the field despite Poljak (36) being all over him. Lap nine had C. Koteles (1K) still leading, Poljak (36) in second, Kocuba (10) in third, F. Magill (05) in fourth, and Brian Huchko (60H) in fifth. With two laps to go, another caution would slow the pace for a car that spun out low in turn two. C. Koteles (1K) wanted the inside lane on the restart which put Poljak (36) to his outside. When green replaced yellow, C. Koteles (1K) would keep his lead and hold it down for the final two laps en route to his second PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock win. Poljak (36) finished second, Kocuba (10) third, F. Magill (05) fourth, and Bill Robertson (1B) completed the top five. The heat race winners were Huchko (60H) and C. Koteles (1K).

In the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder eight-lap feature, Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, would start on the pole. JR Shaner (34), from West Sunbury, would start on the outside in second while Craig Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio, would start in third, Susie Rudolph (55) would start in fourth, and Paige Jones (67) would complete the five-car field. When the green flag waved, Janas (88) would pull away with the early lead and S. Rudolph (55) would follow him into second, and Shaner (34) settled into third. Janas (88) would lead until lap five when S. Rudolph (55) would pass him for the lead. She would lead the remaining three laps of the event and go on to pick up another Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder win. Janas (88) settled for second, Shaner (34) third, Jones (67) fourth, and C. Rudolph (5R) would complete the field. The heat race winner was S. Rudolph (55).

The All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns eight-lap feature was up next and Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale, would start on the pole. Gavin Kokolis (91), also from Oakdale, would start to the outside in second. Tyler Hollister (44T), from McDonald, would start in third while Emmerson Laboon (114) would start in fourth, Abby Gindlesperger (05), from Jefferson Hills, would start in fifth, Zoey Knight (78Z), from Plum, would start in sixth, and Sumara Weaver (112W), from Daisytown, would complete the seven-car field. When the green flag dropped, Snatchko (56) would keep the early lead, however, Laboon (114) would take over the lead in turns one and two on lap one. Lap three had Laboon (114) in the lead, Snatchko (56) in second, T. Hollister (44T) in third, and Gindlesperger (05) in fourth. Lap five saw the event’s first caution when Ginglesperger (05) spun out coming out of turn four. Laboon (114) would choose the outside on the restart and she would keep her lead when green replaced yellow. With one lap to go in the event, the caution would slow the pace once again. Laboon (114) would take the outside on the restart and she would lead the final two laps as she made her way back to victory lane. She was followed by T. Hollister (44T) in second, Knight (78Z) in third, Gindlesperger (05) in fourth, and Kokolis (91) rounded out the top five. The heat race winner was Snatchko (56).
