Bish wins the 12th annual ed laboon memorial in a thriller at PPMS (Full Write Up Results for 6.10.2023)

Imperial, PA (June 11, 2023)

The 12th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial presented by Horhut Inc, flagged by All Ways Flagging & Traffic Control, and driven by Fuel Required, would go down in history on Saturday night at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks paying $4,017 to win in an edge-of-your-seat thriller!

PPMS would see qualifying, a six-lap dash, nine heat races, a four-wide salute, a fireworks display, and six a-main feature events. Tim Bish (11B), from Ringgold, would win the 12th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial after taking the lead from three-time event winner, Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burrell. Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, picked up the win for the Rohrich RUSH Late Model Dirt Series. Garrett O’Patchen (25), from Finleyville, got his first career win for the Hobby Stocks, while Tyler Hollister (69), from McDonald, also picked up his first career win for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and Evan Strouse (54), from Lower Burrell, also picked up career win number one for the All Ways Safe Young Guns.

28 Penn Ohio Pro Stocks were signed in and ready to battle it out for their chance at winning the prestigious 12th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial presented by Horhut Inc.

Cody Koteles (1K), from Stockdale, would set the fast-time in qualifying with a time of 21.723. Tyler Wyant (24), from Oil City, was only 0.065 seconds off of Koteles (1K) with a time of 21.788, while 13 other drivers were less than a second off of the fast-time.

The field would be broken into four heat races with the top two from each heat entering the redraw for the six-lap dash. Christian Schneider (W5), from Pittsburgh, would win the dash which gave him the pole position in the 30-lap 12th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial A-main feature event.

With Christian on the pole, his teammate, boss, and three-time winner of the Ed Laboon Memorial, Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burrell, would line up to his outside starting in second place. The second starting row consisted of Tim Bish (11B) starting third, and Tyler Wyant (24), from Oil City, starting fourth.

When the green flag dropped for the 30-lap a-main feature event, the 12th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial, it would be Chris Schneider (55) who would come away with the early lead. However, a lap one caution would slow the pace and re-rack the field for debris in turn one.

On the restart, Chris Schneider (55) would keep his lead over the field with Christian Schneider (W5) following him into second, while Bish (11B) was in third, C. Koteles (1K) was in fourth, and Noah Brunell (18) was holding down the top five.

Another caution would come on lap nine as a car hit the wall in turn two and there was debris on the track from the incident.

Chris Schneider (55) would choose the outside on the restart with Bish (11B) now to his inside in second place, and Chris would retain his lead over the field when they returned to green flag conditions, but it would be short-lived as Bish (11B) would soon take over the lead as the front-runners began to contend with lapped traffic.

The event’s final caution would come on lap 19 for debris in turn three.

Bish (11B) would opt for the inside on the restart which put Chris Schneider (55) to his outside with 11 laps remaining. Bish (11B) would keep his lead over the field and by lap 21, he had Chris Schneider (55) in second, and Brunell (18) now in third.

Bish (11B) would lead the remaining laps of the event, en route to his first Ed Laboon Memorial win, taking $4,017 to the bank for his efforts. He was followed to the line by Brunell (18) in second, Jordan Perkins (13J) in third, Chris Schneider (55) in fourth, and Christian Schneider (W5) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were Cody Koteles (1K), Tyler Wyant (24), Chris Schneider (55), and Christian Schneider (W5). Joshua Seippel (84S), from Franklin, was the hard charger as he started P25 and finished P14.

In the Rohrich RUSH Late Model 20-lap feature, Brandon Burgoon (5X), from McDonald, would start on the pole. Starting to his outside in second was Jake Gunn (14G), who is also from McDonald. When the green flag waved, J. Gunn (14G) would come away with the early lead, but fourth-starting Policz (14B) was already up to second.

The event’s first caution would come at the end of lap one for Mike Reft (9R) who spun out between turns three and four.

J. Gunn (14G) and Policz (14B) would lead the restart but track officials would call a no-start and line the field up again for a second try. This time the restart was good but Policz (14B) would take over the lead and J. Gunn (14G) would settle into second behind him.

Lap 13 had Policz (14B) still leading, Cole Petrelle (184) moved into second, and J. Gunn (14G) had fallen to third.

Policz (14B) had a full straightaway lead by lap 14 and a half-track lead by the end of the event, as he would lead the remaining laps of the event and go on to pick up his first PPMS win of the 2023 season. He was followed to the line by Petrelle (184) in second, Burgoon (5X) in third, J. Gunn (14G) in fourth, and Zach Gunn (17G) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Z. Gunn (17G) and J. Gunn (14G).

The 10-lap Hobby Stock feature was up next and Tom Anton (64A), from Jefferson Hills, would start on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second was Ben Anon (13), also from Jefferson Hills.

When the green flag dropped, first place was up for grabs and Gary Koteles (64K), from Stockdale, would have the lead at the line on lap one with O’Patchen right behind him in second.

O’Patchen would make his move on lap three and take the lead away from G. Koteles (64K).

The race would run caution free with O’Patchen (25) picking up his first career Hobby Stock win. He was followed by G. Koteles (64K) in second, T. Anton (64A) in third, B. Anton (13) in fourth, and Karlee Kovacs (221K) would round out the top five. The heat race winner was O’Patchen (25).

In the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder 10-lap feature, T. Holliser (69) would start on the pole. Starting in second and on the outside was Susie Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio. When the green flag waved, Paul Koffler (48), from Dunbar, would come from his P4 starting spot and take over the lead.

Koffler (48) was still leading through lap four when Rudolph (5R) would take over second place. However, two laps later, she spun out in turn four which brought out the caution. Koffler (48) would lead the restart and as the field went through turn two, Rudolph (5R) would spin out again and bring out another caution.

When the field was able to return to green flag conditions, Koffler (48) would again keep his lead but T. Hollister (69) began to put pressure on him for the lead. As the duo exited turn four towards the white flag, T. Hollister (69) would go to the low side and pass Koffler (48) for the lead.

T. Hollister (69) would lead the final lap of the event and go on to pick up his first Crawford Auto Repair victory. He was followed by Koffler (48) in second, Bill Tennant (187) in third, Joseph Jacobs (27) in fourth, and Jakob Chipps (38C) would complete the top five. The heat race winner was Joseph Jacobs (27).

Last but not least was the All Ways Safe Young Guns 10-lap feature event and Evan Strouse (54) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting second was Sumara Weaver (112W).

When the green flag waved, Strouse (54) would pull away with the early lead and Weaver (112W) in tow in second.

On lap two, Weaver (112W) would spin out in turn two and bring out the event’s first caution.

Strouse (54) would choose the inside on the restart and he now had P5-starting Zoey Knight (78Z) beside him in second. When green replaced yellow, Strouse (54) would retain a small lead over the field as Knight (78Z) would pull even with him and challenge him for the lead.

Knight (78Z) would take over the lead at one point, but a few laps later, Strouse (54) would retake the lead from her with three laps remaining in the event.

Strouse (54) would lead those remaining three laps, en route to his first career All Ways Safe Young Guns win. He was followed by Knight (78Z) in second, Gavin Kokolis (91) in third, Weaver (112W) in fourth, and Cheyenne Hollister (29P) completed the top five. The heat race winner was Strouse (54).
