Urey wins the second annual sport compact shootout plus Charlier & policz both find victory lane again

Imperial, PA | 9.17.23 | For Immediate Release |

Picture-perfect weather dawned Dirt's Monster Half Mile for the 2nd Annual Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinder Sport Compact Shootout on Saturday Night. PPMS would see hot lap qualifying for the Four Cylinders, 11 heat races, and six feature events.
Matt Urey (501) would come from his sixth-place starting spot to win the 2nd Annual Sport Compact Shootout while Bill Stile 8+8 & Ryan Maglione (555) won for the Vintage Modifieds for both the Modifieds & Sportsman respectively. Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, found his way back to victory lane in the RUSH Late Model 20-lap feature while Daryl Charlier (74), from Midway, also found victory lane again for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks. Stephen Shelpman (17P), from Pleasant Hills, picked up the win in the Hobby Stock feature as he was in a drag race to the finish line with Logan Koteles (64K) leading most of the race. Last but not least, Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale, picked up another win in the All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Guns Feature.
20 Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders were signed in and ready to battle for the 2nd Annual Sport Compact Shootout. Noah Bubeck (187), from Colliers West Virginia, would start on the pole flanked by Travis Brown (47), from Dover. The 2nd row had Travis Corbin (2A), from Colliers West Virginia, starting in third and Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, started fourth. At the start of the event, Corbin (2A) would take off with the early lead and had Bubeck (187) in tow, but a lap one caution would slow the pace and rerack the field as fast as they started for the 5R of Susie Rudolph. Corbin (2A) and Bubeck (187) would lead the restart and when green replaced yellow, Bubeck (187) would take over the lead with Corbin (2A) now in second and Janas (88) running third. Urey (501) would eventually take over third place and on the next lap, he would move into second place. On lap seven, Urey (501) would take over the lead and on that same lap, Janas (88) would tag the outside wall in turns one and two causing him a flat right rear tire and a trip to the pits. At the halfway point, Urey (501) was still leading with Bubeck (187) in second and Corbin (2A) in third. Urey (501) was still leading with five to go, and he would go on to win the 2nd Annual Sport Compact Shootout for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders. Following him to the line was Brown (47) in second, Bubeck (187) in third, Joe Campbell (40C) in fourth, and Mike Kelley (6) rounded out the top five. The heat race winners were Urey (501) & Janas (88).
Bill Stile (8+8) would start on the for the PA Thunder On The Dirt Vintage Modifieds. To his outside and starting second was Tim Beatty (311), from Leechburg. When the green flag dropped, the field would hardly complete a lap before the first caution was out for Beatty (311) who spun out between turns one and two. When the field returned to green flag conditions, Wally Stock (74) would take over the lead. Lap four had Stock (74) still leading, Stile (8+8) in second, and Maglione (555) in third. With four laps remaining in the event, Stile (8+8) would retake the lead and lead the final laps of the event to pick up the win. He was followed by Maglione (555) in second, Stock (74) in third, Steve Longo (20) in fourth, and Jeff Manners (16) completed the top five. Maglione (555) won the Sportsman heat and Stile (8+8) won the Modified heat.
17 Rohrich RUSH Late Models were signed in on Saturday night with 16 of them starting the feature. Tony Musolino (42), from Scott Township, would start on the pole for their 20-lap feature event. Mike Reft (9R), from Pittsburgh, would start to the outside in second. Row two had Cole Petrelle (184) starting third and Ben Policz (14B) starting fourth. Musolino (42) would pull away with the early lead when the green flag waved with a battle behind him for second was taking place between Petrelle (184) and Policz (14B). Policz (14B) would come away with second behind Musolino (42). On lap four Policz (14B) began to pressure Musolino (42) for the lead but got out of control briefly in turn four but was able to save it and keep going. Points leader, Brandon Burgoon (5X) was able to take over third on lap five and was starting to pressure Policz (14B) for second but a lap six caution would slow the pace and reset the field. Musolino (42) and Policz (14B) would lead the restart and before the field could complete a lap, the caution was out again for three cars that got tangled up on the front stretch with Burgoon (5X) being one of them. He would retire to the pits, and the field would line up for a complete restart. This time when green replaced yellow, Policz (14B) took over the lead with Musolino (42) now in second, Michael Duritsky (90J) went from fifth to third, and Tommy Schirnhofer (8S) was up to fourth. Lap nine had Policz (14B) still leading, Schirnhofer (8S) now in second, and Musolino (42) back up to third. At the halfway point, Policz (14B) had a 2.041-second lead over the field. Another caution would slow the pace and reset the field on lap 11. Policz (14B) and Schirnhofer (8S) would lead the restart with Duritsky (90J) and Musolino (42) in row two. When green replaced yellow, Policz (14B) would keep his lead over the field. Eventually, the front runners would have to contend with lapped traffic. Policz (14B) led the remaining laps of the event, en route to another PPMS Rohrich RUSH Late Model win. He was followed by Duritsky (90J) in second, Schirnhofer (8S) in third, Daryl Charlier (184D) in fourth, and Musolino (42) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were Duritsky (90J) and Policz (14B). Notable: With Policz's win, he ties Schirnhofer, and Dave Wade for 3rd all-time division wins.
Daryl Charlier (74) would do double duty and start on the pole for the Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap Feature. Flanked on his outside was Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown. AJ Poljak (36), from Baldwin, and Brent McDonald (25) made up the second row. When the green flag waved, Charlier (74) would take the early lead with Kocuba (10) in tow until Kocuba hit the wall in turns one and two, which cost him several spots as he continued on in the event. The event's first caution came around lap three for the 19J of Jason Fosnaught who had car trouble in turns three and four. Charlier (74) took the outside on the restart and he now had McDonald (25) to his inside. When green replaced yellow, McDonald briefly had the lead but Charlier (74) was able to take it right back. At the halfway point, Charlier (74) had built a 2.125-second lead over the field. The event's final caution came on lap 12 but it didn't matter because Charlier (74) was on a rail as he led the remaining laps to pick up another PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock win. He was followed to the line by McDonald (25) in second, Poljak (36) in third, Cody Koteles (1K) in fourth, and Kocuba (10) completed the top five. The heat race winners were Poljak (36) and McDonald.
Jonathan Koteles (2K), from Stockdale, would start on the pole in the PPMS Hobby Stock 15-Lap Feature. Garrett O'Patchen (25), from Finleyville, started to the outside in second. The second row had Logan Koteles (64K) starting third and Matt Benard (15) started fourth. J. Koteles (2K) would come away with the early lead at the start of the event. However, the first caution came on lap two when a car spun out in turn one. J Koteles (2K) and L. Koteles (64K) would lead the restart with Stephen Shelpman (17P) in third and Benard (15) in fourth. When the field returned to green flag conditions, L. Koteles (64K) took over the lead with Shelpman (17P) pressuring J. Koteles (2K) for second and he eventually took it over. Another caution would come on lap six for a car that spun out in turn two. L. Koteles (64K) and Shelpman (17P) led the restarting with L. Koteles (64K) keeping his lead when they cranked up the RPMs. The event's final caution came on lap nine for the 44 of Cameron Hollister who was slow on the backstretch. L. Koteles (64K) and Shelpman (17P) would lead the restart for the final time and L. Koteles (64K) would once again keep his lead with Shelpman (17p) in tow with five laps to go. The duo would take the white flag with L. Koteles (64K) still leading through turns one and two and onto the backstretch. As they entered turn three, Shelpman (17P) would dive down low and get position coming on L. Koteles (64K) as they exited turn four. They would drag race to the finish line with Shelpman (17P) stealing the lead as L. Koteles (64K) settled for the runner-up spot. Benard (15) finished third, J. Koteles (2K) finished fourth, and Marc Corio (14) rounded out the top five. The heat race winners were Benard (15) and Shelpman (17P).
In the All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns feature, AJ Manganello (50), from Jefferson Hills, would start on the pole. Sadie Snatchko (56) would line up next to him in second. The second row consisted of Gavin Kokolis (91), from Oakdale starting third, with Sumara Weaver (112W), from Daisytown, starting in fourth, while Zoey Knight (78Z), from Plum, would round out the five-car field. At the start of the event, Manganello (50) grabbed the early lead. Manangello (50) was still leading on lap two with Snatchko (56) in tow, while Weaver (112W) was in third, Kokolis (91) was in fourth, and Knight (78Z) in fifth. On the next lap, Snatchko (56) would take over the lead. She would lead the remaining laps of the event to go on and pick up another win with a 3.44-second lead over the field. She was followed to the line by Manganello (50) in second, Kokolis (91) in third, Weaver (112W) in fourth, and Knight (78Z) in fifth. Kiersten Chernik (5X) was a DNS as she got out of control in the heat race and hit the wall on the backstretch. She was okay but her car sustained a lot of damage. The heat race winner was Kokolis (91).
