The FastLane Super Stock Series Makes Their Stop at Ogilvie Raceway, and Flynn Takes the Win

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (July 24) – The FastLane Super Stock Series stopped by Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway Saturday night with an impressive 48 drivers checking in. The WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Hornets, Mod Fours and Street Stocks were also in attendance with Kyle Howland, Travis Schulte, Dave Flynn, Tommy Pogones, Jody Bellefeuille and Nate Servaty taking home trophies.

Quain Busitzky and Kyle Howland brought the WISSOTA Street Stocks around the race surface for the night’s first feature event. Howland sped off with the lead while Tim Johnson and Brittany Smith raced side by side for second. Johnson quickly reeled in Howland, and they battled door to door for the lead. Johnson broke away with the point and stretched his lead until his car unexpectedly spun in turn one. The yellow flag waved, and Howland was back in command. The race resumed with few laps to go, and Howland found Justin Pogones and Russell Kostreba on his rear. Kostreba and Pogones remained close for second as Charlie Shiek nosed his way in to battle. With the checkers raised, Kyle Howland snagged the win with Justin Pogones, Charlie Sheik, Russel Kostreba and Keith Tourville as the top finishers.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds had a feature that was full of action and cautions. After a few restarts with one lap complete, the lead point was switched three times, however once some laps were run, it was Shane Howell and Zach Benson nose to nose for the lead. Howell nosed ahead for the lead, but Benson kept at his door until his car slowed due to a mechanical issue. Howell led the drivers back to green as Travis Schulte raced to his door. They kept side by side a few laps, but Schulte secured the lead. After a few laps passed, Howell also suffered a mechanical issue and spun in turn two. Travis Schulte led the drivers back to green and soon took the checkers. Ryan Savoy, Corey Mehrwerth, Ashley Mehrwerth and Evan Checkalski rounded out the top points.

The field of 48 WISSOTA Super Stocks was dwindled down to 26 starters with Nick Oreskovich and Kyle Copp on the front row. Oreskovich claimed the early lead, but debris landed on the track and the yellow waved. This would be the first of many cautions for the Super Stocks, but Oreskovich brought the drivers back to green. Tim Johnson raced to Oreskovich’s door and they were side by side down the chute, with Oreskovich faster out of the curve. Dylan Nelson and Kyle Copp closed in on the top two drivers as seven cars sat turned the wrong direction in turns three and four. Drivers were sorted with Oreskovich in the top point, however Johnson and Nelson moved to his doors and raced three wide for the lead. Johnson nosed ahead on the straight-away but Nelson and Oreskovich were back at his door in the curves. This same sequence occurred for a few laps and through a couple cautions. Johnson continued to lead the charge every time the green waved, while the others kept close. Oreskovich then dropped from the battle while Nelson kept after Johnson. One final caution slowed the drivers and on the restart, Johnson had Nelson and Dave Flynn on his bumper. The drivers were three wide in the turn, and upon exit, Flynn emerged as the new leader. Nelson and Johnson battled for second as Dave Flynn led the remaining laps and took the win in his #29F. Tim Johnson, Dylan Nelson, Jake Froemke and Kyle Copp earned top points.

Landyn Randt, Tommy Pogones and Garret Masurka claimed points one, two and three as the WISSOTA Mod Fours took the green. Robert Holtquist moved into third, made the pass for second and moved inside Randt for the lead. Holtquist however got loose and Pogones retook second. Pogones and Holtquist moved next to Randt and they were three wide for the lead. Pogones pulled ahead with the point just as the yellow waved. Pogones brought the drivers back to green but had Holtquist at his side. They raced side by side when contact occurred and Pogones got loose. Pogones kept his car moving while Holtquist grabbed the lead. Pogones caught Randt for the second point when a bump happened between Randt and Pogones and the #04 spun. The drivers were lined up according to the last fully scored lap, which put Pogones back in the top point. With a couple laps left, Tommy Pogones held the lead and took the win. Robert Holtquist, Dean Larson, Garret Masurka and Jordan Fischer rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were the next feature on the agenda with Taton Hansen and Eric Lamm on the front row. Lamm sped off with the immediate lead while Jody Bellefeuille moved into second. Within a few laps, Bellefeuille was at Lamm’s door and soon, he was in the lead. Bellefeuille put space between himself and his competitors, however Clayton Wagamon slowly closed the gap. With five laps to go, Wagamon was next to Bellefeuille. They were door to door for a moment, but Jody Bellefeuille held the lead and took the win. Clayton Wagamon, Dave Cain, Jeremy Nelson and Eric Lamm grabbed top points.

The WISSOTA Hornets wrapped up the feature events and after a quick caution, Colton Trembath was in the lead. Marcus Ammerman grabbed second while Matthew Dittman, Jesse Turnvall and Nate Servaty raced three wide for third. Another caution slowed the Hornets, but Trembath remained in the lead. Servaty didn’t let Trembath get away and worked his way to his door. Nate Servaty made the pass for first and held the lead until the checkers waved for the win. Remaining top points went to Matthew Dittman, Colton Trembath, Alex Aderman and Jesse Turnvall.

Next Saturday will be another exciting night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway with the School Bus races. The WISSOTA Modifieds, Mod Fours, Street Stocks and Hornets will also be in action with racing scheduled to start at 6:30pm.
