Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Aug. 25, 2014) – Joe Trenca is getting closer and closer to his first career sprint car victory.
He led multiple laps last Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway before finishing seventh, which marked his fifth top 10 of the season.
“I thought we had that race won, so it was a little disappointing,” he said. “It was a frustrating night. We were fast all night. Just a few driver mistakes and I hate to keep making these mistakes. My crew guys have been working really hard. I really want to get a win for them.”
Trenca opened the night by finishing fourth in his heat race, which earned him a trip into the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 2 to start on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap main event.
“We drag raced down the frontstretch and I got up top in turns one and two and I led about three or four laps,” he said. “Then a red flag came out. After the red flag we led two or three laps and they had a caution.”
Trenca moved down to the bottom following the restart and a couple of cars drove around him on the outside. He dropped to fourth before nearly being involved in a crash midway through the feature.
“One of the locals tried to put a slide job on me and almost put me in the opening where you push the cars on the track,” he said. “I had to get on the brakes and lost a couple more spots.”
Trenca’s seventh-place finish was his first top 10 since June.
“We’ve been involved in some wrecks lately and torn up some stuff so there were some positives to getting a top 10 on Saturday,” he said.
Trenca will return to action on Tuesday at I-88 Speedway in Afton, N.Y., with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints. He will also race with the series on Sunday at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., which will sandwich a supermodified race at Oswego Speedway in Oswego, N.Y., on Friday.
