Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston Record Two Top 10s at World Finals

Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 6, 2018) – Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston entered the famed World of Outlaws World Finals last weekend seeking their first top-10 finish together during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race.
The marquee event at The Dirt Track at Charlotte yielded much more than that as the Swindell Speed Lab backed team recorded a top-five finish during the opening main event before capping the spectacle with a sixth-place finish.
“I was happy,” Swindell said. “After last year’s performance I was concerned coming in. We changed our big track package around. We had something we were comfortable with and we were good off the bat so it made it a lot easier.”
Bayston qualified second quickest in his group for both the Friday and Saturday programs during the opening night of action last Thursday. He then won a heat race before finishing where he started – sixth – in a dash on Friday. The main event was postponed to Saturday afternoon because of a curfew.
“Whatever package Kevin had on that thing was just about right,” he said. “The track didn’t have a lot of grip. I was able to go wherever I wanted and have clean air. I could sweep the corners and have speed. As the race went on guys began to slow their pace and I was able to keep the pace I was running. The last half of the race we made a lot of moves and clicked off a top five.”
Bayston made a last-lap pass to secure a career-best fourth-place result.
The team was just as strong during the nightcap, finishing second in a heat race and winning a dash to garner the pole position for the A Main.
“We played it a little too tight for the pace we had to run around the fence,” Swindell said. “We got better toward the end when the pace slowed down. We ran third the whole race, but on the last restart we didn’t have a good turns one and two and we lost a couple of spots to finish sixth.
“Last year we left there pretty miserable. This was a good way to turn it around. I feel like we’ve got a lot better grasp of the car these last two weeks. We’ve made some gains.”
The sixth-place run was the team’s 15th top 10 of the season.
“Entering the weekend a top 10 would have been a win for us,” Bayston said. “To run top five in one race and sixth in another was cool. There were a lot of great cars there more than a regular Outlaws show, too. To be able to do that made it even more special.”
