Wheatley Nets Career-Best Three Wins to Highlight 2017 Campaign

Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (Nov. 1, 2017) – Austen Wheatley scored a career-best three feature victories to highlight the 2017 season.

Wheatley opened the year by recording his first career triumph at Central Washington State Fair Speedway in Yakima, Wash., with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series. He added his first-ever win at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., in May before returning to Victory Lane at the track in September.

“It was great to get my first wins in Yakima and in Elma,” he said. “Now I’ve won at all three major dirt sprint car tracks in my home state of Washington. That was something I’ve wanted to accomplish for a while.”

Another highlight came during Wheatley’s final race of the season with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. He advanced from 22nd to a 14th-place finish to garner the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars on Sept. 16 at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif.

“We’re at the level where we aren’t happy with a 14th-place result, but it was a good way to wrap up the handful of races we ran with the Outlaws this season,” he said.

Wheatley finished a career-best eighth in the Grays Harbor Raceway championship standings and ninth in the Summer Thunder Sprint Series standings despite not attending multiple races at both the track and with the series.

He also set quick time during qualifying in four races this season.

“I want to thank Doug Rutz, my dad and Willie Kahne for the opportunities to race this season,” he said. “We had some fun moments and have something to build on for the future.”
