Gretz, Dix and Schneider Win The Big Three at 141 Speedway
July 28, 2019 Francis Creek, WI
Greg Gretz held off a hard charging Josh Long to claim the IMCA Modified Feature win on Saturday Night at 141 Speedway. It was his first win of the season. Greg Gretz started up front in the IMCA Modified Feature event. HIs racer was on point for 20 straight laps and never relinquished the lead. Josh Long started ninth and quickly worked his way through the field. Long got to the second spot only to see the leader using a perfect line. Long searched high and low around the 1/3 mile but could never find enough to get passed Gretz. Gretz held off all advances in taking home the win over Long. Jeremy Jacobs grabbed third place points and money with R.M. Van Pay in fourth. Shawn Kilgore finished fifth after starting the A Main in 19th.
An instant classic as they say in the sports world is what the IMCA Stock Car Feature brought to the table. Larry Karcz Jr started off up front and looked to have his night all planned out in victory lane. Unfortunately for Karcz, Rick Dix decided not to settle for third. Dix ran the bottom in the early stages but decided to go out of line with Todd Augustian and make a charge back to the front after losing spots early. The duo seemed to draft on the top and gain on the leader every lap. Brandon Czarapata would make his way around Zach Spangenberg mid race and the trio would start reeling in Karcz. With two laps remaining, Karcz, Dix and Czarapata went three-wide for the race lead. Dix and Czarapata would split Karcz and make it a drag race over the final 1/3 mile. They stayed even until Dix got hard on the gas off of turn four and found just enough to beat Czarapata to the line. Karcz finished third. Josh Mroczkowski finished fourth helping his championship bid. Zach Spangenberg ran to a strong fifth place finish.
Last lap excitement followed the Stock Car Feature with Tom Schneider and the IMCA SportMods getting their turn. Robert Wittkopf opened with the lead on lap one only to turn it over to Cory Kemkes on lap two. Kemkes would command the ship with Craig Dorner getting to second. Dorner would track down Kemkes over the middle portion of the race. Kemkes would first have to dodge a spinning Ricky Mott but would have contact to his right rear in the the process. The next lap, Mott would return to the speedway right in front of the leaders. Both Kemkes and Dorner would have to dodge the lapped traffic. Dorner would get too hard into turn one and spin causing a caution with six laps remaining. Enter Tom Schneider from his 11th starting spot. Schneider had been knocking off positions but looked to have been running out of laps. He got his chance and took advantage. Schneider would stay with Kemkes until the white flag lap. Schneider would put his racer in to position with a power move inside the leader off turn two. Schneider grabbed the lead and picked up the win on the final circuit. Kemkes had a great run to finish second. Wittkopf finished third ahead of Ryan Lemieux. Billy Edler finished fifth.
Terry Van Roy showed the Grand Nationals why he leads the division with Feature wins. Van Roy started fourth in the show and by the end of lap one he had the lead. Van Roy dominated the event. Ryan Minster used a caution to get passed Josh pierce but could never make a good enough charge at Van Roy. Van Roy picked up his third win of the season in front of Minster. Don Sorce had a late pass for third over Pierce. Dustin Weiss crossed the line fifth.
Mason Woods has ran only a couple of nights in his Street Stock at 141 Speedway but he looked like a seasoned pro during the A Main event. Woods ran the top to perfection the entire event but came up just short in his quest. Woods would have to deal with Championship contender Kraig Koehler late. Koehler proved he was the man to beat as he moved down low with three laps remaining after tailing Woods. Koehler used some help from the lapped traffic to make his move but set sail over the final laps. Koehler picked up the win and the point lead. Woods finished second in front of Adam Crapser. Chase Solomon finished in fourth in front of David DeGrave.
Neil Watzka dominated the 4 Cylinder Feature event in front of the 20 car field. Watzka was never challenged in the 15 lap Main as he crossed the line first and picked up his second win of the season. Brian Watzka finished second. Adam Broehm finished third ahead of Tony Everard. Point leader, Mike Zitzer finished fifth.
