Amantea Solid During Debut in 360 Sprint Car at Big Diamond Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (June 23, 2020) – Joey Amantea competed in his first career winged 360ci sprint car event last Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., where he brought home a 14th-place finish with the United Racing Club.

Amantea followed that up with a top-five result in wingless micro sprint competition at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Saturday night to finish out the two-race weekend. The top-five was his fourth of the 2020 season.

“There was a huge learning curve to getting behind the wheel of a sprint car and the night was filled with a lot of rookie mistakes,” he said. “As a competitor you always want to run better, but I had reasonable expectations about what to expect and I think we met our goals.”

Amantea began Friday night’s sprint car event by finishing fourth in a heat race. He then lined up 10th in the feature and he was running in the 12th position when contact with another car on a restart spun him out. Amantea rejoined the tail of the field with six laps to go and was able to advance to the 14th spot at the checkered flag.

“I lost a few spots to begin the feature trying to avoid a wreck and we ended up getting involved in a wreck on a restart,” he said. “We bent a torsion bar, but the car was still all right. We came back from 20th to finish 14th and I got some great experience along the way.”

Saturday marked a return to familiarity as Amantea headed to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks for wingless micro sprint action. He won his heat race from the fourth starting position, which placed him fifth on the feature starting grid.

Unfortunately, bad luck reared its head when Amantea stalled out on the second lap, sending him to the rear of the field. He was able to race his way back to the front and when the checkered flag was waved Amantea was in the fifth position.

“The car was a rocket ship all night and we just had some bad luck go our way,” he said. “I think we maybe set the car up a little too tight for the A Main, but we had a heck of a battle going on there at the end and I ended up fifth.”

Next up for Amantea will be three days of wingless micro sprint racing. He will begin the week on Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., followed by a trip to Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., on Friday. He will then head back to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Saturday.

“In looking at the schedule, this might be the last time we get in the micro sprint for a little bit as we shift our focus a little bit,” he said, “But I love racing in the micros and our program has been too good to start the year to not find Victory Lane. We’ve got three chances to do it this weekend and I’m looking forward to visiting each track.”
