Runner-up finish in Southern Nationals stop at 411 Motor Speedway

Competing in the final two rounds of the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals, Dale McDowell and the Shane McDowell Racing team headed to 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) on Friday afternoon for the $10,053 prize. Drawing 26 cars, Dale timed in second fastest in his group before picking up a 10-lap heat race victory. Rolling off fourth for the feature, McDowell closed in on polesitter Chris Madden late in the lapped-traffic but came up 0.644 seconds short to finish second behind Madden, with Cory Hedgecock, Brandon Overton, and Ross Bailes completing the Top-5 finishers. On Saturday afternoon at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.), McDowell followed up the second fastest time overall in qualifying behind Ross Bailes with a heat race win. Rolling off on the pole for the $10,053-to-win finale, Dale shot out to the lead on the opening lap and led the first 20 circuits before a flat right-rear tire sent him pitside. Joining the field from the tail, Dale McDowell salvaged an eighth place finish in the 53-lap affair.
