Drake Troutman

Troutman competes in four states over five consecutive days

Drake Troutman of Hyndman, Pennsylvania, embarked on a busy Dirt Late Model schedule in the third week of April, starting in Ohio and wrapping up in Alabama.

On Tuesday, Troutman opened the five-race stretch at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) in his Wheeler Fleet Solutions/RFI Resources No. 7 where he was one of 54 entrants for the Castrol FloRacing Night in America season opener. Troutman qualified 16th in his group and finished seventh in his heat race, putting him in one of two B Features. He started 10th and finished 7h, failing to transfer to the main event on the famed half-mile.

The next night, the Castrol FloRacing Night in America program shifted to Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) where 56 cars registered for the night’s festivities. Troutman qualified 12th in his group and narrowly missed out on a transfer spot in his heat race with a 4th-place result. However, he led wire to wire in his B Feature and started the 50-lap main event from the 20th position. He also came home in the 20th spot at the quarter-mile speed plant.

Thursday evening saw Troutman travel south to Seymour, Tennessee’s 411 Motor Speedway where he was one of 47 entrants for the Seymour Showdown with the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series. Troutman clocked the 20th quickest time in his group and came home ninth in his heat race, forcing him into a Last Chance Showdown. He was unable to transfer to the night’s feature after a 10th-place result on the 3/8-mile oval.

On Friday and Saturday, Troutman followed the Outlaws to Alabama for two nights of racing at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama), the 1/3-mile red clay oval in the shadow of Talladega Superspeedway.

In preliminary action for the inaugural Alabama Gang 100 – with 62 cars on the property – Troutman set the overall quick time in qualifying and was on the pole for one of the evening’s three 20-lap feature races. He came home third behind Tanner English and Brian Shirley.

Thanks to Friday’s strong result, Troutman won his heat race from the pole on Saturday, earning him the seventh-place starting spot for the 60-lap, $50,000-to-win main event. He ran as high as sixth before a popped tire relegated him to a 25th-place finish.
