NASCAR & Coos Bay Speedway Ready For 2018 Season

With the dawn of a new year track officials have been working hard behind the scene. Coos Bay Speedway is excited to announce that they will continue their partnership with NASCAR and will once again be a home track with the nations top sanctioning body.

"With the renewal of the sanction agreement, comes a great point funds for our NASCAR divisions and provides second to none 1million 50 thousand dollars worth of participant accident insurance." Said Drake Nelson owner of the speedway. "Not only the cash incentive that NASCAR provides, the Speedway gets to utilize some of the best people in the industry with a quick phone call to the hub in Daytona Beach, Florida."

Last season NASCAR came to Coos Bay for the first time in many many years. The speedway saw record crowds and a lot of great family oriented events. 2017 was a year of new ownership with many changes around the facility. New NASCAR style Whelen caution lights were installed, concession stands offered new food items, a new souvenir shop was erected, and for the first time, the Division One Champion (Mike George, Super Late Model) was invited to Charlotte, North Carolina to collect his awards and cash prize of over $6000.

The 2018 season takes a strong charge with the track crew reworking the large rock in the newer pit area to help competitors have a better experience working on their cars on race day. Also, as soon as the weather breaks plans to rework the racing surface a bit to help provide better side by side racing on the track will take place.

The Division One Super Late Models once again will be racing for the $10,000 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series point fund, with bonus money available to the top three in the Oregon State Championship race as well as a new track Rookie of the Year. Coos Bay could technically have three different people invited to Charlotte next December in Division One. Being NASCAR calculates their national points differently from the speedway championship points and the fact that we will have a new Rookie of the Year due to last years honoree no longer being eligible. All drivers who have not held a Division One NASCAR license in the past are in the running to receive rookie honors that comes with the $1000 bonus and an invite to Charlotte.

Division two through five Sportsman, Street Stocks, Hornets & Mini Outlaw's will also have their respective NASCAR Whelen All-American Series point funds back intact for the new season. Drivers will be competing for their share of another $6500 available through the NASCAR program. Any driver finishing in the top 5 in National points earn an invite to the big Charlotte, NC banquet as well.

Nelson stated "We are happy about the outlook for the season on the horizon, drivers should be excited about what Coos Bay has to offer and we look forward to kicking off another new season soon."

The 2018 event schedule is set to be announced by the end of January if not before. Officials are still waiting on one sponsor negotiation that is in the works. The said sponsor will play a factor as to how many two day NASCAR shows will be available this season. We are also happy to welcome back the Winged Sprint Cars that will run some weekly nights plus joint shows with the reformed ISCS Sprint Car Series. IMCA Modified Speedweek, 360 Speedweek, Rolling Thunder Big Rigs, and the History Channel's Mr. Dizzy Eve of destruction with fireworks are all slated for nights on the 2018 schedule.

Coos Bay Speedway is a unique facility offering three different venues to area competitors. Along with the NASCAR Home Track, a 1/8 NHRA drag strip, and Mud Drag pits also sit on the property. The three different venues share the different weekends through the summer months for their racing action.
