3rd annual Ironman Challenge on tap next

Drivers are anxiously awaiting to head to the southern Oregon coast this Saturday. Coos Bay Speedway is up next for the 3rd annual Ironman Challenge. This will also be the 4th time the WSS has headed to this beautiful bullring, located deep in the trees outside of the city of Coos Bay.
Since 2017 a new format would come in to play as the race went from a standard event to the Ironman. This race is 40 laps in distance and a large $1,500 payday up for grabs for the feature winner. In the previous 3 visits, we’ve seen 3 different winners. In 2016 Lance Hallmark would be victorious. In 2017 Rob Lindsey would win the first Ironman. Last season, Lindsay Barney would be victorious for her first Ironman title. We took the time to reach out to those 3 drivers to ask their opinions on Coos Bay Speedway and this great event.
Eagle Creek’s Lindsay Barney would give kudos on “the track being vastly different from the other tracks that we race at,” she also would add “it’s hard to get a win there because it’s 10 more laps than we usually do. So you have to be conservative with your moves, and think about your tires too.”
Sherwood’s Rob Lindsey would point out, “Coos Bay is a bad fast track early in the day and a very technical track come feature time. You can always count on close racing.” He would also add that he “Always looks forward to our annual Ironman at the bay.”
McMinnville’s Lance Hallmark would mention how “I like the size and location of Coos bay speedway being on the southern coast of Oregon.” He would also mention on the difficulty of getting it right adding, “what makes it difficult to get a win is it's an equalizer track as it dries out it seems to have a few more yellow flags bunching up the field and every year we go back it seems all competition is getting faster.” He would also bring up the added laps saying, “The last 10 laps are a game-changer also a bit longer than all other of our races making it important to get your set upright.”
Expecting a big car count, and big excited fan base always makes Coos Bay a must go to event during the season, especially as we get closer to the end of a very competitive season.
Also racing on the oval is the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series featuring the Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Hornets, and the young guns in the JR Stingers.
