Walker Produces First Career Legends Victory During Exciting Event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – LOUDON, N.H. (Sept. 18, 2019) – A feature victory had been a long time in the making for Jack Walker, who achieved that feat for the first time behind the wheel of a legends race car on Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The triumph was his first career during his fifth year in the division and it came at a great time as he leads the INEX Semi-Pro road course championship standings.
“It’s been a struggle trying to get all the pieces put together because we’ve had the speed to be there,” he said. “It’s definitely been exciting all week to see what we can do from this point forward. The last time that I won was in a four-cylinder car in 2013. To finally be back, there is a lot of excitement. Now I’ve proven to myself that I can do it.”
Walker entered Sunday with a staggering 23 top fives and 31 top 10s in 32 races this season, but a victory continued to elusive. Walker qualified fourth quickest and advanced from fourth to third on Saturday at the road course, which is a little more than one and a half miles long.
“We tightened the car up between Saturday and Sunday and I think that really helped,” he said. “The car was really loose. It was also wet so that wasn’t helping me either.”
Walker timed in third quickest to open Sunday’s competition. He lined up on the inside of the second row for the main event and took over the runner-up position on Lap 2.
“The second-place car pushed into turn one too hard so that got me to second,” he said. “I was able to make a pass going out of turn three to get to the lead midway through the race. With two laps to go there was some traffic that was clogging up the lead cars. That allowed the guys behind me to leapfrog ahead. On the last lap there was contact between the two leaders and I was able to take advantage of that.”
Walker made the most of the last-lap incident by rocketing into the lead and earning his first career victory.
He will return to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this Friday with his eyes on bigger prizes coming up.
“We’re getting ready for the Asphalt Nationals and the Road Course World Finals in a couple of weeks,” Walker said. “Those are the two big national events for U.S. legends cars.”
