Inside Line Promotions – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (April 9, 2019) – Brian Brown closed the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series spring swing throughout the west with a top-five finish last weekend in Arizona.
April 5 – USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. – Qualifying: 4; Heat race: 1 (2); Dash: 5 (5); Feature: 5 (5).
“It was an efficient night,” Brown said. “We got back to qualifying well, which put us on the front row of a heat race. We won that to make the dash. That is what sets you up to have a successful night. We felt like we were pretty good. We got into heavy traffic in the middle of the feature. We were right there with the leaders. They had a double-file restart and it was stop and go. I ran into the back of (David) Gravel and it knocked my nose wing back. To hold onto a top five was good. At this point it’s about building some confidence.”
April 6 – Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz. – Qualifying: 9; Heat race: 3 (3); Feature: 19 (9).
“We qualified decent and were in position to get into the dash during the heat race, but I made a couple of bad laps and let Gravel by,” Brown said. “Then in the feature we lost our brakes right away. Sometimes when it’s like that you can ride around. There never was a caution to go to the work area. We were getting into some heavy traffic. There was no sense of tearing anything up so I just pulled off.
“On a positive note it was two great turnouts for FVP customers and employees on Friday and Saturday. It’s good to get out to that region to see some of the returning and new customers and the same for the employees.”
SEASON STATS – 13 races, 0 wins, 2 top fives, 4 top 10s, 4 top 15s, 7 top 20s
“It was a boost for our team to get back into the top five before we return to the Midwest,” Brown said. “It definitely helps our team to be racing in Florida to start the season and then in the west the last month. We’ve been able to make more laps out there the last few years so we’re making headway, but the one thing we’ve always noticed is that it helps us get off to a strong start once racing begins in the Midwest.”
UP NEXT – Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa
“Knoxville Raceway is the best track in the country so we’re looking forward to the season starting there this weekend,” Brown said. “That’s what is the good part of our schedule. We can have some good nights and have our teeth kicked in. We’ll go out to Knoxville and hopefully get our confidence and then go back out with the Outlaws. It’s the best of both worlds.”
