$5,000 To Win Copper Classic Set To Close Out ASCS Southwest Season
Bryan Hulbert – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (November 26, 2019) Down to the final two nights of the 2019 season, the Copper Classic headlines this Thanksgiving Weekend’s festivities with the ASCS Southwest Region’s biggest payday of the year at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek.
Taking place Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30 the opening night of action will deal out $2,000 to win, $225 to start for the ASCS Southwest Region with Saturday’s action upping the winner’s bounty to $5,000 to win and $300 to start.
Along with the ASCS Southwest Region, the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Non-Wing Series will also be in action at $1,000 to win, $150 to start Friday and $2,000 to win, $150 to start on Saturday. SWDRA Super Late Models complete the weekend card with $1,500 to Friday’s winner and $3,000 to the driver who tops Saturday.
The fourth time the Copper Classic has been contested, the weekend format will follow as it has the past three years with a rare qualifying format.
Friday’s Format will be as follows:
Hot laps by groups
Single car qualifying 2 laps (If you miss your qualifying position by 2 cars, you’ll get 1 lap at the end of qualifying,)
Heat races will be lined up by qualifying times.
4 Heat Races top 4 going to A-Feature. Remainder to B-Features.
Top 6 in the A-Feature will be inverted by qualifying time.
Positions 7-16 will be lined by qualifying times.
B-Features will be lined up by qualifying times. Top 4 out of each ‘B’ will transfer to ‘A’. First ‘B’ transfers will line up on the inside row and, second ‘B’ transfers will line up on the outside row.
Top 2 finishers will be locked into the A-Feature and can’t start any worse than the 10th on Saturday A-Feature. You can better your starting spot by racing Saturday.
For 5 Heat Races, the Top-3 transfer to A-Feature. The remainder will go to B-Features
Top 6 in the main will be inverted by qualifying time. Position 7-15 will be lined up by qualifying times. The top qualifying time that does not transfer from heat races will start 16th in the A-Feature.
B-Features will be lined up by qualifying times. Top 4 out of each B-Feature will transfer to A-Feature. First B transfers will line up on the inside row, second B-Feature transfers will line up on the outside row.

The two-day affair will pay full points to settle who will be the 2019 ASCS Southwest Regional Champion. Going into the weekend, Colton Hardy leads by 39 points over J.T. Imperial with Jesse Baker one more point back in third. Eric Wilkins and Alex Pettas make up the top five in driver standings.
Friday, November 29 opens at 4:00 P.M. with racing at 6:00 P.M. (MT). Admission is $22 with kids 11 and under free into the grandstands. Saturday, November 30 opens at 4:00 P.M. with racing at 6:00 P.M. (MT). Admission is $25 with kids 11 and under free into the grandstands.
Pits both nights open at 2:00 P.M. (MT). Pit Passes are $40 per day.
The weekend’s action will be broadcast live on https://www.speedshifttv.com/ for fans who can’t make the trip.
