ASCS Southwest And Desert Non-Wing Headlining Copper Classic At Arizona Speedway
Bryan Hulbert – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (November 23, 2021) The final weekend of the season for the ASCS Southwest Region and the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Non-Wing Series is this Friday, November 26, and Saturday, November 27 with the sixth running of the Copper Classic at Arizona Speedway.
Set to be the final round of action ever contested at the Queen Creek oval, the final run will feature a season-ending $7,500 payday for the ASCS Southwest Region and a $2,000 top prize for the ASCS Desert Non-Wing Series on Saturday night. Friday’s prelim will pay $2,000 to wings, and $1,000 to Non-Wing.
Prior to the post-Thanksgiving showdown, there will be practice on Wednesday, November 24 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. (MT).
ASCS Desert Non-Wing will use the standard ASCS Passing Point Format.
For the ASCS Southwest Region, the following format has been approved.
Single car qualifying among your group/heat race only.
If driver misses qualifying order with group, driver will get 1 lap at end of qualifying but will not be able to be scored higher than 4th in group they belonged in. That score will carry throughout entire nights event. Ie Heats, B mains.
Heat Races: 8 Laps with lineup based on group qualifying and an invert of 4. Winner and fastest qualifier to transfer go to redraw. If heat race winner is the fastest qualifier, they will be the only one to redraw from that heat race. Number of transfer TBD and announced at driver's meeting.
B Mains: 12 Laps, number of transfers TBD
C Mains: 12 Laps If Needed
Feature Event: 25 Laps on Friday, 30 Laps on Saturday. 40 minute fuel clock from the first push off. Single file restarts.
Under yellow Lap cars will go to tail of the field with 5 laps or less remaining in main event. Scoring: Leader plus one crosses the line prior to yellow being displayed, lap will be scored.
Once checkered flag is brought out for leader, it will not be retracted. If there is a yellow condition on track, drivers will be notified over radio but yellow flag and checkers will not be shown together.
If yellow is thrown on final lap before checkers is thrown, there will be a 2 lap green, white, checkers finish adding an additional lap. Green and white together will not be thrown. If leader is spun on green white checkers restart, leader will get spot back at front of field on next restart. If leader spins on their own, leader will go to tail of lead lap cars. Max of 3 green white checkers restarts on final lap.
If race not completed on 3rd attempt, race will be scored and completed by last lap scored. Ie: lap 24 on Friday, Lap 29 on Saturday.
Wednesday Practice is free for the grandstands. Pits are $30 and open at 3:00 P.M. (MT).
Friday, November 26, and Saturday, November 27 opens at 3:00 P.M. with Qualifying at 5:45 P.M. Racing begins at 6:35 P.M. (MT). No mufflers will be required all weekend. Tickets are on sale at https://www.arizonaspeedway.net.
