Blurton Extends Top-10 Streak with Sixth-Place Result During URSS Opener
Inside Line Promotions – LIBERAL, Kan. (April 21, 2015) – Zach Blurton continued his top-10 streak last Saturday during the United Rebel Sprint Series season opener at Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway.
Blurton overcame a stacked heat race and heavy track conditions early in the night to close with a sixth-place result during the feature. That gives him four top 10s in as many races this season.
“I was happy that we moved forward,” he said. “I’ll take it for the first night and it’s something to build off.”
The event opened with Blurton advancing from fifth to fourth place in his heat race, which was one spot out of locking into the main event on the unique track.
“The track was pretty wet and we had a lot of good drivers in it,” he said. “Liberal is a d-shaped track so there’s only one straightaway. Through turn two and into three is one big curve. It was built around a baseball field. And turn four is where home plate was. It’s pretty unique.”
The heat race result relegated Blurton to the B Main, which he won after starting on the pole. That lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.
“Everybody was around the bottom,” he said. “I started running the top about a quarter of the way through it. If I would have found that a little faster and stuck to it a little harder than I did I could have got a couple more cars.”
Blurton rallied from 11th to the sixth-place finish. Sunday’s race at the track was cancelled because of weather.
He is slated to return to Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., this Saturday. Blurton finished eighth at the track earlier this month.
“Last time we missed the redraw by one spot,” he said. “This time it’s about getting in that redraw and seeing if we could start up front in the main event.”
