Georgian Lunsford Takes Fifth Ann. UCRA Bama Brawl Saturday Checkers at Fort Payne Motor Speedway
Fort Payne, AL (03/11/23) --- The 5th annual "Bama Brawl" was contested Saturday at Fort Payne Motor Speedway, in north east, Alabama, South of Chattanooga. Despite possible bad weather approaching the United Championship Racing Alliance - UCRA marched on with race #1 of the 2023 season, where one racer could take home $8500.
In the feature presented by Red Line Synthetic Oil pole sitter Chip Brindle of Dalton/Chatsworth, GA had things under control until four laps to go, when he blew a tire. Brindle managed an 8th place finish. Marty's #M96 is sponsored by "Universal Environmental Services, C&S Auto Electric, Platinum Trucking and Gray's Mobile Service" held off Jason Lively whom earlier in qualifying, had a deck height infraction. Local racer and Rookie of the Year contender Jesse Hughes of Crossville, AL was third. Michael, Paige and Michael Mims rounded out the top five finishers of the 21 entrants. Disqualifications were handed out to two time and defending series champion Kenny Kizzar and defending Bama Brawl winner Chase Oliver for altercation's during the feature.
Fort Payne Motor Speedway's next event is Saturday night, April 1st: for the inaugural Autism Awareness Race. Money raised during the race will go to Autism Awareness. The UCRA's second race of the season is scheduled for next Saturday, March 25th at Tazewell Speedway north of Knoxville near the Tennessee/Kentucky state line.
