Inside Line Promotions – SEDALIA, Mo. (Aug. 21, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi continued his string of strong results during a three-race weekend.

Scelzi guided his family owned team to a top 10 and the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Hard Charger Award last Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., before he scored podium finishes on Saturday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., and on Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway.

“I think we should have won on Saturday and Sunday,” he said. “When you get podium finishes and feel like you could have won it’s frustrating, but at the same time it’s good to be a contender. We missed the setup and that’s on me, but that’s part of the process as I’m learning more about setting the car up each race.”

The action began on Friday when Scelzi qualified 15th quickest to kick off the Second Leg of the Northern Tour at River Cities Speedway. A sixth-place result in a heat race lined him up on the outside of the ninth row for the main event. Scelzi methodically picked his way through the field to finish ninth, which marked his third top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws. He also captured the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“We were too tight in the heat and I think that took us from possibly running fourth in the heat,” he said. “We fought an extremely tight car in the feature, too. We had two open reds and did wholesale changes. I had to run so cautious that we left a lot on the table. Being as tight as we were I couldn’t attack the cushion or run the track like I wanted to. We passed a lot of cars, but I think we could have made it further through the field if we weren’t so tight.”

Rain wiped out Saturday’s Outlaws show, forcing the team to head to Jackson Motorplex for a Midwest Power Series and Midwest Sprint Touring Series event. Scelzi nearly swept the night by winning a heat race from third and the dash from the pole before he finished second in the A Main.

“We were a little tight in the heat, but nothing crazy,” he said. “In the dash the track was slicking off a bit, but you could run around the bottom. In the main event it was hooked up around the top. With being a bit snug it was hard to navigate through traffic. A car checked up in traffic and I had to check up, which cost us the lead. We just didn’t get through traffic as well as Lee Grosz did.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway, where Scelzi won a heat race and lined up on the outside of the front row for the A Main during his debut at the big oval.

“The track was wide open around the bottom and we won the heat,” he said. “I felt pretty good. We started second in the main event. We’ve had take-off issues on bigger tracks and we lost the start. After six or seven laps we got to Jonathan (Cornell) for the lead. I was running the bottom in turns three and four and the top in turns one and two. He moved down and we had another restart at the end of the race. The guy in third passed us going into turn one. We got the spot back out of turn two and a caution came out. The officials put us into third for the restart and we finished there.”

Scelzi’s third-place result was his 21st top five of the season.

He is scheduled to return to Roth Motorsports this week for King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series races on Wednesday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., during the Gold Country Showdown; on Thursday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., during Thursday Night Thunder; and on Friday and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., during the Champions Classic.
