Inside Line Promotions – LAS VEGAS (March 7, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi recorded valuable seat time during the FVP Outlaw Showdown last weekend at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas.

Although Scelzi wasn’t content with the results during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader, he was thrilled with the progress his Roth Motorsports backed team made throughout the event.

“It’s definitely not what we hoped for going in, but we were able to take a lot away from it so it was a success,” he said.

The event began on Thursday with Scelzi qualifying 12th quickest. He then advanced from sixth to fifth place during a heat race to lock into the 19th starting position for the main event on the half-mile oval.

“We didn’t time in where we hoped, but we were able to transfer into the feature through the heat race,” he said. “In the feature the race track was one lane around the bottom and it was really hard to pass. About three laps in we had a right rear tire start to go down. We held on hoping for a yellow. A lap after we got lapped it went down so that ended our night early.”

Scelzi was unable to finish the race and he was credited with a 23rd-place result.

The event wrapped up on Friday when Scelzi timed in 29th during qualifying in part because of a high pill draw to start the night.

“We were the third to last car out,” he said. “The World of Outlaws were one car out of split qualifying. If they would have done split qualifying we would have timed in seventh in the second group. That really hurt us.”

Scelzi advanced from eighth to seventh place in a heat race, which relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown. He then finished where he started – ninth – to close the weekend.

“It seemed like on the original start and the final restart we weren’t in the right row and ended up not being able to make it through the Last Chance Showdown,” he said. “It was a disappointing end to the weekend, but we definitely grew as a team overall.”

Scelzi will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with the World of Outlaws.
