Chad Clancy Makes Last Lap Pass to Win IMCA Modified Thriller; Moore, Peeler, Steven Clancy, Persell and Burnett also Win on Westfall GMC Night

(OSBORN, Mo.) – With $1,000 on the line, the IMCA Modifieds battled for 20 laps before the big check had a recipient. After several early cautions, Cory Wray and Chad Clancy settled into the top two spots. Wray ran the bottom of the racetrack, as did Clancy. Clancy could roll the center of the corner better than everyone on the race track, but he couldn’t get the drive off to move to the inside of Wray. With two to go, it looked as though Clancy had conceded and would settle for second. Instead Clancy went to the high side, somewhere he hadn’t been all night. Clancy didn’t have much time, but the top had some grip and Clancy closed the gap to Wray as the white flag flew. Clancy went high in turn one, and with the built-up momentum, blew by Wray off turn two. Clancy protected the bottom in three and four and picked up win number three in 2019, leading just one lap. Wray had to settle for second. Scott Brown came back from an early race incident to finish third. Clay Hale and Jim Masoner Jr. made up the rest of the top five.

For the second week in a row, Jack Potter looked as if he had the IMCA Winged Sprint feature won. For the second week in a row, bad luck struck Potter. While leading, Potter caught the cushion in turn one and took a violent tumble, ending his night. Thankfully, Potter walked away OK. Mike Moore, who was chasing Potter down, took over the lead and held off a challenge from Mike Houseman Jr. in route to his first trip to Westfall GMC Victory Lane in 2019. Houseman finished second, with Matt Richards third, Kenny Potter fourth and Frank Rogers fifth.

Blake Peeler started the IMCA Stock Car feature in 10th. After one lap, and some impressive passes, Peeler moved up to fourth. After a few more laps, Peeler ran second. Running the top lane, Peeler quickly moved around early race leader Gerald Wahwahsuck and dominated the remainder of the feature. Tim Eaton followed Peeler through the field, finishing second after starting 11th. Wahwahsuck, who flipped one week ago, provided one of the feel-good stories of the night and finished third. Connor Masoner and Carson Masoner rounded out the top five.

Steven Clancy has figured out something the rest of the IMCA Sport Mod field has not as he picked up win number five in 2019. Week after week, Clancy starts buried in the field, but he uses patience and poise to work to the front. The fast lane was the bottom of the raceway, and Clancy found himself stuck behind early race leader Coleman Browning and Josh Munsen. Not content to ride in line, Clancy went to the high side. It took a few laps to work the line in, but once he did, Clancy moved around both Munsen and Browning on his way to the win. Browning maintained his spot to finish second, as did Munsen for third. Randy Smith Jr. finished fourth and Jeremy Pittsenbarger finished fifth.

It took six races, but Anthony Persell ended Connor Masoner’s win streak in the Pure Stocks. Persell, who has been close to victory lane before, got it done this week. He used a front row starting position, had a fast racecar and got win number one in 2019. Masoner finished second, with Tyler Starmer third, Derrick Brown fourth and Chester Kaufman fifth.

In the E-Modified feature, it was all about the hard chargers as the top four all started in row three or worse. Casey Burnett won his first race of 2019 after starting sixth. Eddie Ingram took home second after starting eighth. Shawn Burns continued the trend, finishing third after starting 10th. Kit Bailey started 13th and charged forward for a fourth-place finish. Pole-sitter Scott Crockett rounded out the top five.

Up next for US 36 Raceway is one of the biggest races of the year, as it is one of the staple events on the schedule; the Bud Shootout. The ASCS Warrior Region will make their return, and the Sprint Series of Nebraska will join them as they make their first visit of 2019. The IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars are also on the card.
