Bowers Jr., Snyder, Clancy, Wright, Starmer and Burnett Victorious on Championship Night; Andersen, Drueke, Baumli, Wright, Barnes and Asher Earn 2020
OSBORN, Mo. – Six new champions were crowned on Friday at US 36 Raceway.
In the IMCA Modifieds, point leader Chad Andersen took to the early lead. After leading a few laps, national point contender Steven Bowers Jr. began to close. Before the halfway point of the race, Bowers slipped by Andersen and drove to his fifth win of the season at US 36 and made the trip to Westfall GMC Victory Lane. Andersen held on for second and clinched the 2020 track title. Josh Munsen earned track rookie of the year, finishing third on the night. Mark Schafman and Tony Layne completed the top five.
In the IMCA Sprint Cars, Stuart Snyder went wire-to-wire to earn his second straight victory at the track. Kenny Potter ran the entire race in second about a half straightaway back from Snyder. Trevor Grossenbacher completed a solid run with a third place finish. Tyler Drueke finished fourth, which was good enough to take the 2020 track championship in the Sprint Cars. Toby Chapman completed the top five.
Before the night began, JJ Baumli had already clinched the IMCA Stock Car track title. He wanted to complete the campaign with a win. However, late in the race, Chad Clancy, on a charge from a tenth place starting position, worked by Baumli to pick up the win. Brad Labonte finished third, with Brian Labonte fourth and Randy Smith Jr. in fifth.
The IMCA Sport Mod championship came down to a dramatic turn of events. Coming into the night, Steven Clancy held a four point lead on Chris Wright. While leading halfway through the feature, Clancy suffered a mechanical failure and Wright inherited the lead and the points lead. Wright had to maintain his position up front to win the title. With a walk-off win, Wright made the trip to victory lane and took the track championship. Adam Vrbka drove up from eighth to finish second. Tim Stallbaumer finished third, with Kyle Russell fourth and Truman Asher in fifth.
By starting the E-Modified feature, Justin Asher wrapped up the E-Modified championship. He then set his sights on the win. He looked well on his way, but in a caution free race, Asher found himself in lapped traffic. Second place running Casey Burnett worked through traffic better than Asher and snuck by for the win on the final lap. Asher finished second with James Burns in third, Chris Dishong in fourth and Josh Adkins in fifth.
In the Pure Stocks, Tyler Starmer and Nate Barnes put on a great show for not only the win, but the championship as well. Coming into the night, Barnes held a one point lead. Starmer held off Barnes challenges all race and picked up the win. With Barnes finishing second, the two ended the season tied in points. It took multiple tiebreakers, but Barnes earned the 2020 title. Gracie Couch finished third, with Chester Kaufman fourth and Danny O’Doniel fifth.
Up next a US 36 Raceway is the 2nd Annual IMCA Missouri Nationals, October 8-10 featuring the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sprint Cars, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Sport Mods.
