Topper, Bowers headline at U.S. 36 Raceway

By Rick Staley (Osborn, MO) -- E-Modifieds would kick off the night of exciting racing action with Josh Marshall #55J taking the lead early. Heat race winner Justin Asher #74 from Faucett, MO would work his way to the front and wrestle the front spot from Marshall with Tim Eaton #211 following through to move into the second position. Eaton and Asher would race side by side in the closing laps with Eaton taking the win by a mere bumper at the line. As Eaton would celebrate in Lake Road Warehouse Victory Lane, Asher would come home second with the always fast #15 of Josh Adkins racing his way to third. Current point leader Coleman Browning #21K was in contention at the end placing a solid fourth on the night with Josh Marshall fading slightly to end the feature fifth. Other heat race winners were George Burnett #23 and Kevin Rash #07R. B feature winner was James Burns #3B from Parnell, MO.

Pure Stock would see a familiar face in victory lane as Alvie Christofferson #17C would use a front row starting position to take the lead and never relinquish on his way to the win. Christofferson would be challenged early by the #24 of Jimmie Workman, then another heat race winner Tyler Starmer #11S, then Colton Couch #13X as the three would battle but to no avail. Other heat race winner Jason Ryun #27 would be in the mix as well until mechanical issues would take him from the feature event. As the checkers would fly, Christofferson would win, Colton Couch would race to the second spot with Tyler Starmer third tightening the point battle. Fourth would belong to Jimmie Workman while current point leader Brandon Hoover #27H continues to impress with a fifth place showing.

Karls Kustoms Northern Sport Mods would not disappoint as heat race winner Tim Stallbaumer #K27 would take the lead and appear to be the car to beat until Steven Clancy #12X would charge to the point. Clancy would come into the race only two points behind point leader Adam Vrbka #7V whom would start deep in the field of fast competitors. As Clancy would lead, other heat race winner Tim Eaton, performing double duty on the night, would race is #211 into contention. As Eaton and Clancy would battle, Vrbka would work his way to the front and with only a few laps remaining, take the lead from Clancy and capture the win. One of the nice guys of the sport, Vrbka would celebrate in Lake Road Warehouse Victory Lane leaving Clancy to finish second and Eaton third. Stallbaumer would fade slightly to place fourth with the always fast and present Austin Charles #81 rounding out the night’s top five.

Nate Barnes #29X from Holt, MO would use a front row starting spot to battle heat race winner Carson Masoner #20X in the opening laps of the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car Feature. Barnes would lead with heat race winner Matthew Lance #12X challenging every lap. The Mullet mafia would be felt as Mich Ross #34X would pass both contenders to take the lead holding off the always fast #17X of Shadren Turner. As Ross and Turner would battle the “GOAT” Mike Nichols would work his way through traffic and make his move for the front in the closing laps. As Nichols and Ross would race to the line, Nichols would win the feature in a photo finish with Ross second. Nichols would celebrate the win commenting on how racy and fun the track was to drive and how stiff the competition is at US 36 Raceway as the field would not see the caution. Nichols #63 wins, Ross second and Turner third. Fourth would belong to Nate Barnes with JJ Baumli #46 racing his way to a top five.

Excitement would flood the track as IMCA Wing Sprints would roll on to the high banks of US 36 Raceway with a locked and loaded field of drivers. Action would start with JR Topper #92JR roaring to the lead with Mike Houseman Jr nipping at his back bumper. Jake Greenwood #43 would be in contention until a tumble in turns one and two ended his charge to the front. As Greenwood rolled, Houseman #4L would have to take evasive action clipping the wall and breaking something on the front of the car and was not as fast afterwards but would continue. Topper would continue to lead as both Jack Potter #15 and Kenny Potter #55 took turns challenging. Topper would not be shaken as Jay Russell #76 was the big mover of the feature closing in on Topper in the closing laps. Checkers would fly and JR Topper with 39 years of racing would claim his first victory of the season at US 36 Raceway Dirt Track. Heat winner Russell would place second with other heat winner Jack Potter third. Fourth would see Kenny Potter with current point leader Houseman Jr fifth.

IMCA Modifieds would see a solid field of competitors doing battle on the high banks. Heat race winner Greg Querry #02 from Bethany, MO would set a blistering pace early holding Benjie Douglas #51D at bay. Douglas would slip slightly as Josh Munsen #19X would drive by to challenge Querry. Current point leader Steven Bowers Jr #77 would start his march to the front from deep in the field passing both to take the front and never look back. Bowers Jr would celebrate the victory as Munsen would move into second position and Querry third. Douglas and #37 Jeremiah Asher would battle with Asher fourth and Douglas fifth respectively.

To win it once is amazing to back it up and hold the traveling trophy for another year is simply unreal with the competition fans voted into the HWY 36 Auto and Diesel Shocker Chassis 6 Pack Shootout, but this is exactly what the “Silver Fox” JJ Baumli has accomplished. Never easy with the field of great drivers Baumli would go undefeated with it coming down to a shootout with he and the “Mullet Mafia” Mich Ross. Ross, #34X was chosen by fan drawing winner Ruth Ross to win but would fall with Baumli taking the win. Ruth would still take home a slick $100 for playing with Baumli collecting $400 for the win. All competitors raced hard and finished the night of great racing at US 36 with a bang.
US 36 would like to thank Drivers and Fans for making it a great night of racing and family fun. Special thanks to SOAR Phoenix Softball Team selling 50/50 tickets with a fan receiving well over $500 and the other half going to new uniforms and tournament fees, well done ladies.
