TABOR TOPS PURES AT RAIN SHORTENED FRIDAY AT CLAREMONT
Claremont Motorsports Park Friday, June 7, event story
CLAREMONT, N.H. – Keegan Tabor scored his second LaValley Building Supply Pure Stock victory of the season Friday at Claremont Motorsports Park, pulling to within ten markers of divisional points leader Andrea St. Amour with his caution-free romp to the checkers.
But, with persistent showers throughout the evening raising havoc with Friday’s scheduled Feature Frenzy event, the Pure Stocks were the only Weekly Racing Series division able to complete their races. After a lengthy rain delay, the scheduled 50-lap Enduro was held just before the showers returned.
Amy Jaycox led the first three laps of the Pure Stock feature, with Tabor, firing from row three, quickly pulling up to her back bumper. Taking second from Jake Snide on lap two, he then kept his petal to the metal, sweeping past Jaycox to lead lap four and never look back.
Green Mountain Boy Kyle Kenny, who a week earlier had earned his first career CMP trophy with a third-place run, found that podium visit so satisfying that another one would be fun too. Taking second from Jaycox on lap 17, he made his wish come true.
Over the last half of the event, the top five often raced nose-to-tail, although Tabor turned on the afterburner late to win by five lengths. Two-time 2024 winner David Smith was fourth under the checkers, and St. Amour held her top spot in the championship points standings in fifth.
The Claremont Karting Series, usually strutting their stuff on Sunday afternoons at the Thrasher Road speedplant, competed in their first Friday night event of the summer. Jaxson Byrne of Deerfield, MA topped the Junior Kart 15-lapper, and Elm City racer Ryan Roof won the Senior Kart feature.
Charlestown, NH”s Asher Stoddard was second in the Junior event, and Jack Edson finished third. Oliver Quinney was the Senior runner-up, and Gabe Gokey was third.
Duplicating his win of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre event back on February 24 here at CMP, Antrim’s four-cylinder Enduro ace Matt Gauffin added another victory to his long list of Thrasher Road wins on Friday.
Gauffin was so dominant that he’d opened a half-lap lead by lap 23 and then, turning up the heat, had lapped the entire field by lap 38. Keith Walton was second in Friday’s 50-lapper, and Freddie Rogers, a veteran of many CMP Enduros, came home third.
The feature races postponed due to Friday evening’s rain will be run this coming Friday June 14th All Pit Wristbands and Grandstand Tickets will be honored..
Claremont Motorsports Park returns to action next Friday, June 14, with a full card of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series action.
