CLAREMONT, N.H.- No fewer than three different drivers took their first CMP victory laps Friday at Claremont Motorsports Park, as Tyler Leary, Carlos Grenier, and Seth Drown each won their first main event at the storied third-mile.
And then, there were a few very familiar faces basking in trophy row too. Brandon Gray won the night’s main event, topping the Super Street Summer Six Pack 77-lapper, while Guy Caron stormed to victory in the Outlaw feature.
Reigning Six Shooter king Steve Miller Jr. won his second event of the summer, Friday and Kyle Templeton, a former CMP Pure Stock champ, topped the Mini Stocks.
Starting Brandon Gray up front is never a good idea for anyone not named Brandon Gray and Friday the Thetford, VT star again showed why, qualifying for the main event pole and then blasting to his fourth win of the summer as he topped the RE Hinkley Fuels Super Street main event over a blockbuster field.
Friday’s 77-lap main, the third of the summer’s multi-track Summer Six Pack series, netted Gray the $1,000 winner’s purse, taking the checkers ahead of Cabana Boy Justin Beecher and rocketman Matt Sonnhalter who, along with Andrew Morin, came into Friday’s race with a Six Pack victory already to his credit.
Chris Riendeau and Morin chased Gray early, with Sonnhalter, charging from row five, soaring up to second on lap 49. Beecher, who’d quietly been slicing through traffic from 13th on the starting grid, followed Sonnhalter into trophyland, taking over second five laps later but, on this night, had no answer for Gray.
Super soph Dylan Zullo came home fourth on the night, with Riendeau rounding out the top five. Morin, seventh on the night, turned in the event’s fastest lap, blistering the Thrasher Road third-miler at 15.986 seconds.
Modified rocket man Tyler Leary wired Friday’s Asetex Tire and Auto main event to score his first-ever CMP feature win. The Bay State pilot’s victory was well earned, as rookie upstart Trevyr Young, in the best run of his young Modified career, rode in his shadow from green to checkers.
Young, who turned the night’s fastest lap in the caution-free feature, showed great promise for the future, shining in trophy row between Leary and 2023-track champion Nate Wenzel.
Popular hometracker Carlos Grenier, victorious elsewhere but shut out at CMP entering Friday’s LaValley Building Supply Pure Stock main event, led the final 22 laps to earn his first-ever CMP victory lap. Amy Jaycox was strong in second until suddenly veering wide on lap 19, dropping back four spots as Andrea St. Amour quickly filled the deuce hole.
St. Amour continued her rock star summer, picking up the silver medal award just ahead of potent Kyle Kenny, who trophied for the third week in a row. Keegan Tabor passed up his high school graduation Friday to compete in the Pure Stocks but if it comes up again, he may choose the cap and gown. The potent Green Mountain pilot’s ride failed, dropping him to 16th on the night but, with it, at least salvaging 25 championship points.
Opening night Outlaw Late Model winner Jeff Murray led the first seven go-rounds in Friday night’s feature event. Predator Guy Caron, though, had the evening’s hot hookup, then taking charge from the top of the track and blasting off to his third win of the summer.
Murray, six lengths back, was strong in second and Cole Littlewood, in his first CMP run this season, came home third., while Outlaw kingpin Ben Poland suffered a rare DNF.
Kyle Templeton led all the way in the single-caution Mini Stock main. Strong man Nolan McClay, bidding for two in a row, had second until his ride faltered to a stop on lap 13, with Cameron Sontag then taking over the deuce spot and Pat Houle charging up to third.
Steve Miller Jr. took the lead from Paul Colburn on lap four of the Six Shooter feature and then blasted off to win with ease. Steve Miller Sr., aboard a new ride, got up for second on lap 12, and Colburn held strong to come home third.
Seth Drown started up front in the Race Day TV Ridge Runner feature and led all the way. Five-time winner Aiden White got up for second on lap13, and then held off Richie Morrocco to score the runner-up finish. Drown was later found with a Carburetor infraction in the tech area and was disqualified from the event,
There will be no racing event next Friday, June 21, at Claremont Motorsports Park, as the historic Thrasher Road oval pauses for its annual summer break. Racing will resume at CMP on Friday, June 28.
