Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2021) – Dominic Scelzi owns a 72-point lead in the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series championship standings heading into the penultimate weekend.

Scelzi heads to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., on Friday for the Anthony Simone Classic and The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif., on Saturday. It’s the second-to-last weekend of the season for the series and Scelzi is closing in on his first career championship.

Scelzi enters the weekend leading the series in feature wins (six), feature laps led (120), heat race triumphs (seven) and dash victories (four).

“The goal for the rest of the year is very simple – win everything we can,” he said. “We’re chasing wins right now. We are going to race as hard as we can and hopefully knock off a couple more NARC wins and maybe some 360 wins as well.”

Scelzi is coming off a frustrating finish to the 27th annual Trophy Cup hosted by Thunderbowl Raceway.

The three-race weekend began last Thursday when Scelzi qualified fourth quickest in his group. He then advanced from sixth to second place in a heat race and from 11th to sixth in the A Main.

“We were good on Thursday night,” he said. “I felt we were good all night long and had good points. On Friday we weren’t as good, but I felt we were coming through the field and then we had a mechanical failure take us out.”

Scelzi timed in 18th quickest in his group and won a heat race before the DNF in the feature. He ranked seventh in event points out of the 80-plus drivers heading into the finale on Saturday. Scelzi lined up on the inside of the fourth row in a heat race and passed multiple cars before a crash knocked him out of the race.

“We had a really good start to the heat race and then got completely wiped out,” he said. “It was unfortunate that we had the amount of damage we did on the race car. After an altercation in the pits that was the end of our Trophy Cup. I want to thank my guys for working so hard and giving me a good car once again.”
