What does your power ranking look like?
2024 WISSOTA Regional Pure Stocks Power Rankings
1st
#46 Michael Copp - Oakbank, Manitoba
Accolades - 3x Track Champion, Most Feature Wins All Time (9)
2021 Dinner Jacket Classic Series Champion, 2023 Hard Charger Award"
"Michael Copp returned to form last year after a disatrous 2022. The all time feature winner in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks claimed a third track championship in five years. While his finishes in heat races were plagued with mechanical issues, he used his extensive experience at Lake of the Woods Speedway to show the consistency he had in 2020 and 2021. It will be difficult to dethrone this King of the Rocks."
2nd
#18M Bryson McDonald - Kenora, Ontario
Accolades - 1 Feature Win
"Other than a DNS after hitting the front stretch wall due to a ball joint failure, Bryson McDonald averaged an almost top 3 finish every week. He wasn't always in the hunt for a feature win, but the incremental improvement throughout 2023 may prove to be a net positive as he likely will be in the top three consistently again. While there are others who might claim a championship for the first time, Bryson is listed at the top before season start."
3rd
#282 Brodie Mcgowan - Kenora, Ontario
Accolades - 1 Feature Win
"Brodie Mcgowan accomplished a strong track record in his rookie season in 4-Cylinders (2021) and he did the same thing in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks in 2023. He finished fourth four times, and capped off his first win in the class during the September finale. Sometimes, the sophomore slump can take the wind out of your sails, but when it comes to Mcgowan, finishing well is his MO."
4th
#91 Morgan McDonald - Mitchell, Manitoba
"Morgan McDonald could be anywhere in the top 3 of power rankings, but other than a couple close wins, he was below average on other nights. This is due to some mechanical issues and tough starting positions. Regardless, he will be floating around the top of the field for much of 2024."
5th
#2T Derek Pollock - Winnipeg, Manitoba
Accolades - 6 Feature Wins, 2023 Dinner Jacket Classic Champion, 2020 Hard Charger Award
"On most nights, Derek Pollock has more years of experience than the entire rest of the field. This was shown in his multiple feature wins and claiming a clean sweep during the Dinner Jacket Classic Series. He is ranked fifth in the power rankings due to several factors including not running a full schedule and the improvement of the competition around him."
6th
#14 Logan McDonald - Kenora, ON
"Surprisingly, Logan McDonald is no rookie in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks. Even though his full time stint has been in the 4-Cylinders, the driver has run more than five races in the class. The difference now? He is coming off an incredible 4-Cylinder season last year with the most amount of wins and a track championship. His previous experience in the Pure Stocks will make him a competitor out of the gate in 2024."
7th
#13 Wade Barkley - Ile Des Chenese, Manitoba
"Wade Barkley entered the scene at Lake of the Woods Speedway during the second half of the season. Even though he was plagued by mechanical issues for much of it, he had an excellent season finale (4th). He hopes the worst is behind him and that the better finishes will start coming. The class is getting very competitive, so it is hard to tell whether he will have a shot at a win, but anything is possible if your ceiling is high enough."
8th
#23w Wanda Marshall - Kenora, Ontario
"Wanda Marshall put in a fair amount of seat time before the season started and it showed almost immediately. With the help of her pit crew, she improved almost every race, even with some of the mistakes that affected her overall finish. She had a couple strong features, with a 3rd place earlier in the year and a second place finish in the season finale. As long as she can keep the car straight, she might have a place in the top five for points in 2024."
9th
#57 Darrin Rea - Kenora, Ontario
"Darrin Rea navigated around many of the incidents that happened to others during the 2023 season. Keeping his car out of major incidents and showing patience helped him finished third in overall points. It will be interesting to see how much harder he is willing to push in order to gain a higher average finish and gun for his first ever feature win. Of all the drivers competing in 2024, Rea might be the biggest wildcard."
10th
#73 Steve Redman - Winnipeg, Manitoba
"Anything that could go wrong went wrong for Steve Redman in 2023. Engine problems, incidents, and frustration was the consistent headliner throughout the majority of the points season. His best finish was fifth on day 2 of the Dinner Jacket Classic Series after putting a new engine in the same day. All other finishes were DNF. If he has better luck this year, he should be able to move up the power rankings. "
Notable Mentions:
"Jake Mazur (Dryden, Ontario) returns to Lake of the Woods Speedway in 2024. He was a fierce competitor in the 4-Cylinders. After running in the WISSOTA Street Stocks special at the end of last season, Mazur will be running in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks in 2024. Expect him to move into the Power Rankings by the end of June."
